Job Title: Research Assistant in Multimedia/Psychology (Fixed Term)

Hours: Full-time - 37 hours a week

Contract type: Fixed term appointment (5 months)

**Company Overview**

Esitu Solutions is start-up business comprised of a small team of Traffic and Transport psychologists working together with our clients and partners to develop solutions for improving driver and road safety. Based on scientific research, we create and validate digital driver training and assessment tools specifically for fleet drivers.

**The Role**

We are looking for a graduate-level research assistant to support a 5-month project in the development and evaluation of 360-degree video-based hazard perception training tools for heavy goods vehicles (HGV).

You will work with a small team to create and validate a HGV training package using 360-degree video-based content. This will include working with an expert driver trainer to identify critical sections of video footage that can be developed into training materials, the story boarding of training scenarios and editing the video footage into the final training package. It will also require the validation of the resultant training package through behavioural testing and analysis of HGV drivers.

The role will require you to work in close collaboration with local HGV firms, where it will be necessary to forge and maintain good relationships with these firms as potential test sites for the training materials. It will also require travelling to HGV depots with virtual reality headsets to collect data from HGV drivers who will undertake the hazard perception training.

**Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities**

The role will be primarily to assist with the development and validation of the 360-degree training materials, detailed below. The balance of duties and responsibilities will be determined through discussion with the post holder’s line manager. The post-holder may also be required to contribute towards the development of other new digital training and assessment tools.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Training Materials Conceptualisation _
- Assist with identifying key sections of footage suitable for hazard perception training.
- Articulate ideas visually as concepts and create storyboards of the training scenarios.
- Work in collaboration with an expert driver trainer to identify key learning points in our scenarios
- Video Editing_
- Create high quality training videos that are consistent with company branding and guidelines.
- Advise of ways to improve our overall video offering.
- Introduce creative and innovate ideas to improve our video editing processes and outputs.
- To add animations, sound effects, and audio to 360-degree and 2D videos where required.
- Ensure that editing projects have a consistent and logical structure.
- Create seamless and high-quality training materials_._
- Validation of Content_

Site Testing:

- Forge and maintain excellent working relationships with local HGV companies to allow access to drivers for site testing.
- Liaise with HGV companies to schedule site testing.
- Travel to HGV depots with virtual reality headsets to collect behavioural data from HGV drivers.
- Ensure that all data is accurately recorded, documented, and backed up.
Data Analysis:

- Collation and analysis of the behavioural data from participants.
- Contribute to interpretation of data analysis and written report of findings.
General:

- Attend and contribute to meetings where appropriate.
- Disseminate relevant and regular information back to other staff members and communicate with both internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.
**Skills Specification**

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Essential_
- Significant levels of work experience in digital multimedia design would be considered as an alternative to a degree.
- Desirable_
- Post graduate qualification or PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Adobe Premiere Pro CC Certified Expert certification or equivalent.
**KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS**
- Essential_
- Can communicate effectively with people from various levels within an organisation.
- The ability to produce original ideas both on your own and as part of a team.
- A strong understanding and experience of video editing software and techniques in at least a 2D format (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent).
- Ability to edit high-quality videos with attention to detail.
- The ability to manage your own time effectively, whilst prioritising workload to meet strict deadlines.
- React quickly to briefs and can adapt to feedback from the team.
- Ability to troubleshoot simple problems and escalate more complex problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines.
- A full UK driving license and ability to travel to test sites across Nottinghamshire and beyond.

- Familiarity with project management processes and methodologies.
