**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent, full-time position (Monday - Friday, with some bank holiday cover) as Safeguarding Team Lead for Teenagers and Young Adults at University Hospitals Birmingham.

This is a new role, Trust-wide, working across Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull hospital sites as well as Umbrella Sexual Health Services and Community Teams

Reporting to the Lead Nurses and Director for Safeguarding, the post holder will act as a specialist providing education, advice and support to clinical staff in all matters relating to Safeguarding Teenagers and Young Adults, including Exploitation.

This role will require excellent communication skills to ensure that the needs of teenagers and young adults are addressed across the Trust, and the voice of the young person is heard and acted upon.

The post holder will liaise with external partners & ensure that external requirements are met

They will assist the Lead Nurses for Safeguarding and Director of Safeguarding in ensuring that the Trust provides evidence of compliance, across defined sites and services, with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Children Act 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, relevant safeguarding adult legislation, and regulatory and contractual requirements

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The safeguarding team leader for TYA will provide clinical and professional leadership to assigned clinical teams and services and specialist nursing/midwifery teams ensuring that action is taken at all levels to empower nurses/midwives to provide high standards of safeguarding practice.

They will uphold the reputation of the profession and adhere to the NMC codes of conduct, making the care of all people their first concern. The post holder will be highly visible, accessible and recognisable to patients, relatives and staff and act as a champion for privacy and dignity, professional standards and patient advocacy. They will act as a role model, demonstrate respect, dignity and compassion when delivering their professional duties, and uphold the principles of equality and diversity.

Under the direction of the Lead Nurses for Safeguarding the post holder will provide a professional leadership and line management to assigned staff within the trust safeguarding team.

They are is responsible for promoting the vision and values of University Hospitals Birmingham, leading by example and ensuring that they demonstrate those values in their leadership behaviours and how we support our teams and deliver our services

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:
NMC registration as either adult or children's nurse

Evidence of post registration professional knowledge acquired through Diploma / Degree or above supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to masters level equivalent.

Evidence of recent post-graduate / qualification professional development.

**Desirable**:
Teaching and assessing qualification.

**Experience**:
**Essential**:
A proven track record of operational service management at a Band 7(or equivalent) or above, in an acute NHS provider healthcare setting within safeguarding adults or children's services. Including staff, financial/budgetary and change management.

Experience of multi-agency working across professional and organisational boundaries

Ability to think and plan strategically and tactically;
