**Background on Kilmarnock YMCA**

Kilmarnock YMCA is a Youth Work and Community Charity which supports children, young people and the wider community across Kilmarnock and its surrounding areas. Kilmarnock YMCA works with all children and young people to break down barriers within the community, building positive relationships with other community members and supporting them to reach their full potential through needs led strategies.

We run a wide range of activities that include mentoring, centre-based drop-ins, outdoor learning activities and young leader development.

We also have a community garden, MUGA, a drop-in service, volunteering opportunities and a café that is due to open in August 2024. We also provide a variety of sports and leisure community classes such as gymnastics, yoga, art and sewing.

£12.04ph (unqualified) / £13.70(with a relevant qualification)

**HOURS OF WORK**

9.5 hours per work to be worked flexibly, opportunity for more hours depending on projects and sessions

**LENGTH OF CONTRACT**

1 Year Fixed Term contract possible extension depending on funding

**Purpose of the Role**

To assist in the delivery of a range of diverse programmes and outdoor opportunities, which allow young people to access new facilities, resources or services and to involve young people in the development of these activities.

**Duties and Responsibilities**Smooth running of projects
- To work directly with young people between the ages of 5 and 25 years to ensure their fullest possible engagement with Kilmarnock YMCA.
- To provide a safe environment for young people and their peers allowing them to challenge current attitudes within a group work setting.
- To provide support and guidance to young people enabling them to make informed choices which meet their needs and reach their full potential.
- To develop positive relationships with young people, which will enable their learning, growth, personal and social development and widen their experiences and horizons.
- To maintain a high quality of service to young people by setting professional standards and working within the national framework for youth.
- Provide outdoor play opportunities all year round (on and off site)
- Facilitate freely chosen and self-directed play opportunities.
- Encourage children to help plan and choose the kinds of activities that they would like to do, enabling them to experiment and learn about themselves and the world around them whilst allowing them to experiment and take risks within the safety of the project.
- To attend and participate in regular team and planning meetings with regards to all programmes developed within the organisation.
- To be professional in all dealings with young people, adults and organisations yet approachable and welcoming.
- To manage the behaviour of young people within their participation of all activities and programmes of the organisation.
- To ensure all relevant administration is carried out to a high standard including all monitoring and evaluation reports.
- To liaise with parents, carers, professionals and partnership agencies
- To adhere to all health and safety requirements of the organisation.
- To attend relevant training as required for legislative or development purposes to ensure good working practices and knowledge is maintained.
