**The Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire Area Team**

The team works across the four counties of Yorkshire and in northern Lincolnshire where nature recovery and partnerships are at the heart of everything we do. Our work includes restoring habitats, reconnecting the natural environment and connecting people with nature across the area.

The Area Team is responsible for delivering environmental outcomes set out in the Defra 25-year plan across Yorkshire & northern Lincolnshire. Key to this will be the development of a Nature Recovery Network, with protected sites and sustainable development at the heart. The team uses a range of mechanisms including land management and planning advice, engagement with stakeholders and direct management of our own land, to achieve the protection and enhancement of biodiversity, geodiversity, landscapes and the historic environment.

National team roles can be linked with any Natural England office while Area Team roles will be linked with an office in the relevant geographic area. This role will be based at either Foss House, York, or Lateral House, Leeds.

**Role description**

Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire is home to wonderful and diverse natural coastal and marine environments. We are privileged to work towards enhancing and managing the environment in these counties, to enable sustainable development and to encourage people to enjoy the countryside and coast**.**

The post holder will play a crucial role in the front-line delivery of coastal work for Natural England within an area based team. Key tasks include:

- Act as the lead contact for the Environment Agency under the DAS plus contract to support them in the following activities:

- Ensure that the DAS plus contract is appropriately managed and successfully delivered, providing feedback to Natural England and Environment Agency Managers.

**T**echnical/specialist knowledge**
- Knowledge of coastal and estuarine activities relevant to the area and a clear understanding of their potential impacts on coastal and estuarine processes, habitats and species.
- Knowledge of coastal management issues and preferably of the planning and delivery of flood and coastal erosion risk management.
- The ability to organise, lead and support external engagement with stakeholders and partners (in particular the Environment Agency) in challenging situations. This needs to be done in ways that reduce conflict, increase understanding of Natural England’s position and ensure that the views of stakeholders are respected.
