**Job Introduction**:
BBC News is looking for a Social Media & Younger Audiences Specialist to join the Digital Growth Team in our Cardiff office. The Growth team is a diverse, creative and resourceful group of colleagues who collaborate to grow and engage BBC News’ digital audiences, by helping journalists turn audience data and industry trends into editorial actions and strategies.

**Main Responsibilities**:
Working closely with the Senior News Editors for both Growth and Social News, you will support the roll-out of targeted projects for BBC News social media platforms, to make a visible difference to our referrals and engagement performance. This post will have a particular focus on younger audiences. There are three key areas:
1. Experiments to drive growth and innovation: Work closely with News Social Media editors and output editors to define and implement growth experiments that drive on
- and off-site performance. These include, but are not restricted to, experiments to understand underperformance and optimise content effectively, and to increase social referrals.

2. Training in data-informed decision-making: Help drive audience data even further into the newsroom. Support editorial teams to adopt tools and workflows that offer insight into audiences and move key metrics, such as social media referrals. These tools include Telescope, Chartbeat, Emplifi, Crowdtangle etc. You may on occasion be asked to jump in to offer hands-on support when the news agenda demands it.

3. Communication to share best practice: Work with the teams across Digital to help promote a culture of innovation, collaboration and experimentation. Present learnings in forums to stakeholders and journalists, including team briefings and pan-digital sessions.

**Are you the right person?**:

- Thorough knowledge of social media audiences and the ability to translate these insights into effective strategies for developing our performance on all relevant platforms
- Expert understanding of the way news consumption is changing, and experience in increasing the reach of news content among younger people, on and off-platform
- Proficiency in social media analytics for a variety of platforms including YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok, and familiarity with tools such as Emplifi, Crowdtangle etc
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from across the BBC at all levels of seniority
- Prioritise diversity and inclusion at work - and in our output
- Show knowledge of the BBC’s social media strategy and guidance, of editorial policy and practice and of the law relating to broadcast and interactive journalism including the importance of content rights clearance for social media distribution
