Winchester, United Kingdom Arup Full time

A Future with purpose

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships have a typical duration of 3- 6 years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.

**Fire Engineer - Level 6 Apprenticeship**

As an Apprentice Fire Safety Engineer, with Arup you will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:

- Understanding the first principles of fire engineering including: fire dynamics, smoke dynamics, heat transfer, human behaviour, psychological impact of fire on humans, physiological impacts of fire (tenability), combustion process, products of combustion, structural response and how they are used.
- Application of the legal and regulatory frameworks, statutory guidance and British and European Standard guidance in the context of fire engineering.
- Assessing and evaluating fire engineering solutions, systems, products and processes throughout the life the cycle of a project including design, construction and occupation.
- Programme and project management.
- Research, information management and report writing.
- Developing teamwork, communication skills and collaboration skills by working within other engineering professionals, regulatory professionals and with clients.

These competencies will be developed through practical on-the-job training, working with experienced fire engineers and other professionals across the business, and classroom-based training with Arup and at university - following an apprenticeship pathway to an undergraduate degree in Fire Engineering.

The apprenticeship will typically run over a 5-6 year period, during which time you will undertake a supervised programme of training and block release with a University. You will also be assigned a mentor within the Fire team who you will work and liaise closely with and be there to guide and advise you throughout your time as an apprentice.

Is this role right for you?
