**Women and Equalities Advisor**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work directly with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets on issues and policy relating to women and equalities in the borough. The Women and Equalities Advisor will work closely with the Mayor and council officers to develop initiatives, projects and work programmes in relation to women and equalities groups in Tower Hamlets.
We are looking for an experienced, confident and motivated individual, with in-depth knowledge of the issues facing women and equalities groups, and experience of engaging with and working in communities. They will also have experience of working with policy makers and elected representatives.
The role will include:
- Advising the Mayor on initiatives, projects and programmes of engagement with female residents and residents belonging to equalities groups.
- Advising the Mayor and Cabinet Members on policy developments, good practice and all other appropriate matters relevant to women and equalities groups.
- Advising the Mayor and Cabinet Members on the effects of discrimination on grounds of gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
- Working with community groups, faith groups and any other relevant groups in Tower Hamlets to maintain an awareness of issues affecting women and equalities.
- Attending events on behalf of or with the Mayor relating to women and equalities groups.
- Ensuring the priorities of women and equalities groups are reflected in the work of the Mayor.
Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.
Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.
We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough.
