Permanent position, 36.5 hours per week.

A vacancy has arisen to join a small team of Porters/Security officers who provide an invaluable service in support of the day-to-day operations of Warwick Medical School (WMS), which is a large and busy department. This is a customer focused role, the main element being to liaise with WMS staff in the daily preparation of rooms for meetings, lectures, exams etc., and to facilitate office moves, including the transportation and assembly/disassembly of furniture and equipment (no special skills are required). You will need good oral communication skills and be able to communicate in a calm and professional manner in all situations. The demands on the Porter services are many and varied so you will need to be able to prioritize, plan effectively and take a flexible approach to competing workloads. During quieter periods, you will be expected to be proactive and work independently on own initiative. Other duties include attending to mail and ensuring the general good housekeeping of the School. This is an active role so you will need to have reasonable standard of fitness. A reasonable level of IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office is needed (training can be provided).

**JOB PURPOSE**

To provide an efficient and effective Porter/Security service for staff, students and visitors to WMS.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Liaise with WMS staff:
a. Daily preparation of rooms for meetings, lectures, School events and examinations.
b. Facilitate office moves, including the transportation and assembly/disassembly of furniture and equipment.
c. Receive new furniture and equipment, including the transportation and assembly/disassembly and organizing the disposal of unwanted furniture and equipment.

2. Receive, sort, deliver and prepare for dispatch all external and internal mail.

3. Provide a reception service when required, including escorting visitors.

4. Ensure that that fire exits, stairs and stair wells remain clear of hazards.

5. Collect, store, and arrange for disposal of confidential waste.

6. Manage the consumables for the School’s networked photocopiers.

7. Ensure the general tidy appearance of the Department.

8. Report any building faults to the Estates Service Centre, liaise with, and support, Estates staff and external contractors as required.

9. Security of keys and maintenance of a key register.

10. Assist the Community Safety and Security Team to maintain a safe environment on campus, by for example, reporting suspicious activity, security concerns and inappropriate behaviours.

11. Assist in receiving and storing lost property and maintaining the lost property register.

12. Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post.
