Bristol, United Kingdom Sumo Digital Ltd Full time

Auroch Digital is part of the Sumo Group Ltd. They are a game development studio based in Bristol, UK and founded in 2010. The studio works on original titles, long-term partnerships, and work-for-hire projects such as porting. We specialise in strategy, retro and digital tabletop games, working with the likes of Games Workshop and Ndemic Creations. Auroch also has an interest in making games that relate to and deal with real-world issues.

Auroch Digital's titles include retro boomer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, the authentic beer brewing simulator Brewmaster, action-strategy hybrid Dark Future: Blood Red States, the console versions of fishy theme park management game Megaquarium and cute robot city builder The Colonists, and Mars Horizon 2: The Search for Life which is the sequel to Mars Horizon which was made in collaboration with the European Space Agency. The studio is currently working on several titles, both original IPs and ports.

As a Technical Artist you will have a strong artistic and technical understanding of one or more areas of art, such as Environment Art, Materials, Shading & Rendering, or VFX.

You will use your knowledge to build technical solutions that help the art team (such as scripts, tools, pipelines, and workflows) deliver both on the art direction and technical requirements. Because of your artistic and technical understanding, you are comfortable acting as the bridge between the programming and art teams, able to develop solutions that satisfy the goals of both.

This is explicitly not a technical animator position. Extensive knowledge of mesh topology, skinning and rigging is not a requirement, though we are always on the lookout for Technical Animators.

**Requirements**:

- You can create workflows, pipelines, scripts, and tools for your area of expertise.
- You can integrate art content into our projects according to design spec and technical constraints, especially using scripting languages such as Unreal Blueprints / Unity C#.
- You have a strong foundation in DCC tools such as 3DSMax, Maya, Blender, Substance Suite and Photoshop (as appropriate to your specialism)
- You consider performance and technical constraints and optimize your work as needed
- You are a strong collaborator with the rest of the team and contribute to a collaborative and respectful work environment.
- You are self-motivated and can take on tasks independently as needed

**Nice to have**:

- You understand rendering pipelines and can assist the programming team in implementing new shaders & rendering features in Unity or Unreal.
- Experience building procedural content with tools such as Houdini, Blueprint, Blender and/or Substance 3D Designer
- Experience programming ((expanding engine and tool functionality) using C++/C#/Python for Technical Art systems and tools

**Work benefits**:

- We don’t agree with using crunch (here's our take on it)
- We won’t get in the way of you working on your own indie dev projects in your own time
- Remote, office based or hybrid are all totally fine working options
