Uel Equipment and Instrument Controller

Southampton, United Kingdom UHS Estates Ltd ( UEL ) Full time

UHS Estates Limited (UEL) is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for a detailed job description of the role

UHS Estates Limited are looking for a number of Theatre Equipment & Instrument Controllers to join a growing team within its Managed Theatres service. This is a new role, involving the management of non-clinical support for the trust's operating theatres and catheter labs.

The service supports the operating theatres and labs of a 24/7 acute teaching hospital - providing major trauma and countless tertiary services across the South of England - ensuring that the correct theatre is available, with the correct equipment, the correct consumables and surgical instrumentation, at the correct time.

This role will be key in ensuring the right equipment and surgical instrumentation are in the right place, at the right time, to ensure that the clinical services treat patients efficiently and effectively

UEL Equipment & Instrument controllers are mainly based within the theatre department and are vital to the operational service facilitated by UHS staff. The operating hours are 7:30-15:30, 11:30-19:30, and 13:30-21:30 Monday to Friday.

UHS Estates Limited (UEL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The company is responsible for the design and construction of new buildings, and the ongoing provision of services, including estate maintenance, soft facilities management and the management of equipment, consumables and materials, in support of one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts.

UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

Southampton is an attractive place to live, and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

The post holder will be part of a small team responsible for ensuring that equipment and instrumentation are well-managed, well-maintained and in the right place at the right time. We’re looking for a small team who work well together, with good communication skills, both within the team and with clinical users (UEL customers).

The team will liaise with third-party suppliers and the trust clinical engineering team to ensure that equipment is serviced and maintained effectively, and allocated to theatres efficiently, meaning that operating lists are as efficient as possible. Alongside this, the team will be responsible for arranging and recording preventative maintenance in line with UHS group policy, and manufacturers guidance. The team of controllers will be responsible for placing requisitions electronically, particularly about servicing and loan equipment, as well as organising returns, safety testing etc.

You will also be integral to the development and growth of UEL Managed Theatres as the overall project is rolled out and implemented across new specialities with the operating theatres and catheter labs.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a conscientious, hard-working, team player to join our team at UEL Theatres. Good IT skills and good communication skills will be essential, as well as the ability to organise your workload logically.

You will need to be reliable, be able to work under pressure and be able to motivate yourself and others. The ability to prioritise tasks and escalate where there are risks to services is also an important quality.
