Morecambe, United Kingdom Outcomes First Group Full time

Do you have an NVQ 3 in Health and Social care and experience working with Children with Autism?

Join Underley Garden Residential School, part of Options Autism, as a Qualified Autism Practitioner and continue to develop and create your incredible future.

**The opportunity**

This is a role with an exciting career and development plan, structured to ensure our staff are trained, supported, and continually developed. We want to give you the best possible toolkit, to deliver outstanding care and support to our Autistic Children and young people and help them achieve incredible outcomes.

You will be enrolled on a fully expensed Advanced Autism Awareness course which will help to expand your knowledge, get another qualification and prepare for future roles such as a Senior Autism Practitioner. It is an incredible opportunity to further your career.

This home is located in the idyllic countryside of Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria and is within commutable distance from Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Kendal and Skipton.

**The Role**

At Underley Garden Residential School, we work directly with vulnerable children with Autism and complex needs. Our Children exhibit a wide range of abilities, from non-verbal to high-functioning and you will use your creativity and compassion to tailor your approach to each individual’s needs. This will involve learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. Patience and a passion for this kind of engagement is essential.

You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, delivering personal care, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication.

There is a two week shift rota so you can plan your year in advance:
**Week One - Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday**

**Week Two - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday**

Shift times are 2.00pm - 10.30pm (term time) and 9.00am - 10.30pm (school holidays and weekends). The first two Wednesdays of the month are training days which make up the full-time hours.

Empathy and warmth are crucial to this role, helping you meet the challenge posed by young people with specific emotional and behavioural challenges.

Working as part of an incredible team of committed colleagues, you will co-operate and share knowledge and learning to the benefit of great care. Excellent communication skills are essential, both in terms of teamwork and - most importantly - as you will be in close contact with the children you care for.

Kindness is key. In this role, a warm smile can make a massive difference.

**Who are we are looking for?**

As part of our essential care giving team, you will be flexible, creative and able to act on instinct to find the best, bespoke approach for a wide range of individuals.

Many of our children and young people have difficulty with self-expression and we are looking for Qualified Autism Practitioners who are passionate about making connections and overcoming barriers to communication.

You will be friendly, approachable and kind in your dealings with the children and young people. You will be committed to giving them the space and opportunity to thrive, playing your part in creating a nurturing environment in which they can fulfil their potential.

You will play a key role in the smooth-running of the site, and you will have a good grasp of safety and hygiene, and a conscientious dedication to the young people’s wellbeing. This is a role in which attention to detail really counts - and one that touches the real lives of people every day.
