Lancaster, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust Full time

As a combined Acute and Community Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is enjoying greater integration working with colleagues across different sectors within the footprint of Morecambe Bay. Not only does this provide improved ways of working within the multi-disciplinary context, it enables you to be involved in the exciting journey ahead for providing transformational care within Morecambe Bay.

We are a multi-disciplinary team who would welcome you to join us. As well as being the country’s 10th most inclusive employer, work-life balance is made easier with our location; right next door to the beautiful Lake District, where you can enjoy outdoor recreational activities, as well as being close to the bustling city of Manchester.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Practitioner ( AfC band 4) to join the Integrated Community Stroke Team (ICST) based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The Assistant Practitioners in ICST are core members of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients who have had a stroke in their rehabilitation across inpatient and community settings. Working with our Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Therapists, providing therapy to patients to support their rehabilitation.

The ICST are supportive and committed to provide a friendly and flexible attitude which is patient focused and dedicated to quality care.

We will provide a supported induction programme with a named mentor, monthly supervision and training.

Our aim is to ensure all our patients have access to appropriate treatment in the right location. Our approach to stroke services will require a degree of flexibility as well as creative thinking to establish and form new pathways of care.

We also encourage applicants who are interested in working in team, but who may not have the AP qualification. We can support you to gain the AP qualification, whilst working as an Assistant Practitioner (AfC band 3) and progress to band 4 once qualification completed.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
