Climate Change Team Lead

The post holder will provide strategic leadership to the SPS in relation to a portfolio of climate change projects, including the delivery of net zero in line with both national and corporate ambition.
The post holder will manage and coordinate a team of officers covering a range of climate change, adaptation, and energy project initiatives and activities, including legislative responsibilities, and policy development. Additionally, the post holder will manage and coordinate portfolio of work, which will expedite the SPS’s transition towards net zero carbon emissions.
The post holder will take strategic leadership of SPS climate change policy, assurance, and risk management.
- Responsibilities- Leading on the development and implementation of SPS climate change policies, strategies and plans and ensuring corporate and operational level support.- To work strategically with senior management and colleagues to design projects and initiatives which embed low carbon practices across all SPS directorates, functions and establishments.- To support the SPS Carbon Management Strategy Board, produce briefing papers and performance monitoring reports for senior managers.- Overall responsibility for the identification and delivery of approved SPS climate change targets, projects and initiatives.- Acting as a SPS lead reporter for the collation of climate change performance & compliance reports to Scottish Government and other internal and external stakeholders.- To manage and coordinate a team of officers covering a range of climate change activities including, adaptation, energy, circular economy, transport and supply chain activities, including legislative responsibilities, project work and policy development.**Person Specification**- Qualification Requirements- Educated to degree level in a related field such as sustainability or environmental management- Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements- Experience at middle management level within a public or private sector organisation in relatable field, for example sustainability or environmental management.- Due to the complexity of the role the post holder will be an acknowledged expert within the Climate/Sustainability field. The post holder will require extensive experience delivering initiatives and projects.
