Part Time 18.5 Hours Per Week - Fixed term for 12 months
As a Community Health Champion Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in addressing health disparities within our community. To do this, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work in collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including voluntary sector organisations, healthcare partners, and the local authority, to make a meaningful impact on the lives of marginalised groups.
You’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with the team at Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality. An organisation with an ethos to promote community cohesion and inclusion through community engagement, empowerment and social development in Reading.

Within this role you will be based between Reading Borough Council Civic Offices and Oxford Road Community Centre. You will be expected to travel around the borough, working with different partners within the community. There will be opportunities to work from home but this role is mostly community based.
**About the role**
You will have the opportunity to support the Health Champion Lead to develop and build the Community Health Champions programme, that will operate across Reading. You will provide the day-to-day coordination of the Health Champion Programme, supporting a team of local voluntary health champions and working with communities across Reading to promote this programme and recruit new health champions to join.
The Community Health Champions are a strong network of local people who connect their communities to trusted health and wellbeing information, empower them to adopt healthier habits and share the experiences of their communities.
Working closely with the Community Health Champions Lead, you will ensure Health Champions are appropriately supported with opportunities for a comprehensive training offer which will involve promotion and booking of inductions, core training, and other wider learning opportunities.
In collaboration with the Health Champions Lead, you will engage with community members, to gather local insights, and develop initiatives to promote healthy behaviours and lifestyles, including supporting with any future rollouts of Covid-19 vaccinations.

**About you**
We're looking for someone with a passion for health equity and community development. You should hold a degree in Public Health, community development, health promotion, or a related field or have advanced experience working in health promotion or community development.
You will be very organised, have the ability to prioritise workload, and work across multi-professional and multi-agency partnerships. People oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Experience in project coordination
- Experience working across multi-professional and multi-agency partnerships
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- An understanding of community development, community involvement, health promotion and community participation and work with community groups including communities at risk of health inequalities
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate meetings.
- Sound basic knowledge of local, national, and international policies related to community development and health inequalities.
- Independently mobile, capable of travel within the local community.
- Highly self-motivated and able to motivate others
- Basic ICT skills including Teams/Zoom and Microsoft word/Excel
