**Job Details**
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Suffolk County Council (SCC) Sensory and Physical Service as an Intervenor (School Support Worker) for Multi-Sensory Impaired (MSI) Children and Young People, working from Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich or Lowestoft. We support a small cohort of children and young people across the county so you may be required to travel.
**Your roles and responsibilities**
The Physical and Sensory Service, is a progressive and dynamic team, seeking to recruit an Intervenor with the ability to support Multisensory Impaired (MSI) children and young people in schools.
**You will**:
- provide 1-to-1 support for Multisensory Impaired (MSI) children in their school settings, enabling them to access their education, develop their communication strategies and understand the environment around them
- support their social-emotional and mental health needs and help them to take part in the learning and socially inclusive life of school
- work alongside our specialist teacher for Multisensory Impairment and our team of Intervenors, promoting the use of multisensory adaptions to teaching and learning, to develop their independence, whilst ensuring their safety and welfare
- follow the direction of the class teacher whilst sharing your knowledge of the young person
- have the ability to work collaboratively and promote partnerships with young people, parents, and professionals
- communicate with parents and carers
- undertake the necessary training to support any medical needs
- complete termly progress reports.
There may be opportunities to collaborate with colleagues within the wider team supporting children and young people in their homes. This may consist of visual stimulation programmes and offering appropriate support in the use of tactile skills.

- good communication skills
- to be confident in working with children and young people who have multisensory access needs in their educational settings
- a proactive approach to adapting resources to meet the individual access needs of children and young people.
**The team**
In Suffolk, we are building a team that can deliver services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), that are among the best and most innovative in England. Our management team is passionate about transforming the experiences of Suffolk children, young people and their families.

- specialist skills training in the use of sensory access adaptations and technology
- opportunities to work with our children and young people across the whole range of learning settings - pre-schools, primary and secondary mainstream and specialist schools and further education colleges
- ongoing mentoring and support from colleagues within the Sensory and Physical Service.

We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate, but in this role, you will need to travel to locations away from your contractual base, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.
