This full-time fixed term post will be based at the Porterbrook Clinic on the same site as the Michael Carlisle Centre in the Nether Edge area of Sheffield.
The Sheffield Gender Identity Clinic, also known as the Porterbrook Clinic, is a service for adults who are experiencing gender dysphoria. Our clinic is one of 11 gender identity clinics providing healthcare for adults, commissioned by NHS England. We are a national service and as such, much of our work takes place online via Attend Anywhere NHS platform. Our team is made up of administration staff, medical and nursing staff, and a range of other healthcare professionals, such as psychologists and speech and communication therapists. People who attend our service may be seeking a range of treatment options. We provide support for social transitioning, and medical treatment to decrease gender identity distress. We are proud to provide specialist healthcare to transgender and non-binary people. We are passionate about providing culturally competent, developmentally appropriate and trans-affirmative professional care and management to the people that seek our services.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with adults with gender dysphoria providing gender affirming, trauma informed care. An interest in working with neurodiversity is essential. Duties can include: carrying out psychological pieces of work under supervision, co-facilitating psycho-educational groups and assisting with outcome measures, evaluation and clinical triage of referrals. The Assistant Psychologist will take an active part in our multi-disciplinary team meetings, and prepare material for case discussions. The role will involve working under the supervision of a Principal Clinical Psychologist and/or a Senior Clinical Psychologist.
We are passionate about providing the very best care to the people we support, and we're looking for amazing people who share this passion to join us.
What is it that makes our Trust such a special place to work? Well, it's all about the people. Our staff, service users, carers and families all come from such diverse backgrounds and all have expertise and stories to share.
It’s important that you feel supported in your role, that the people who you work with are as passionate as you are and that your health and wellbeing is taken care of
If you're interested in developing your career, you'll have access to a range of training and education opportunities, including apprenticeships, work experience and placements, as well as the chance to get involved in research.
We are all very proud of the difference we make to people's lives each and every day and if that's something that you'd like to be part of we'd love to have you with us.
The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will support our triage of referrals that are received into the service and ensure they are directed towards the most appropriate pathway. They will also prepare case summaries and collate information for MDT discussion and for one-to-one interventions and appointments. They can provide guided self-help and low-level therapeutic interventions (under supervision). There may be an opportunity to be involved in delivery of self-help workshops to service users on our waiting list. They may also be involved in audit and evaluation e.g of referral pathways, and/or of the implementation of our complexity model.
The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will need to work independently according to an agreed plan and within the overall framework of the trust's policies and procedures. They would be expected to participate in relevant continuing professional development and attend regular clinical supervision. They will work within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
We are a national service and as such, some of our appointments are offered via the NHS Attend Anywhere platform. There may be some flexibility to work from home one day a week by agreement after induction is completed.
