Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. We are looking to appoint a Research Associate to join us on a part-time basis on a fixed-term contract until the end of September 2024. This role will support our READ-it and CIDG teams and will be crucial in preparing systematic reviews within priority areas.

LSTM’s Centre for Evidence Synthesis in Global Health runs the “Research, Evidence and Development Initiative” (READ-It) and contains the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group (CIDG).

CIDG was established in 1995 and we are world leaders in evidence synthesis related to public health in the tropics. We have a wide portfolio of Cochrane reviews in malaria and neglected tropical diseases.

READ-It works with partners scattered throughout the world. You would be part of the team helping develop their programmes of global and national evidence synthesis and evidence-informed projects and associated methods projects. Due to the nature of this work, you can expect to spend a substantial amount of time on site at a key international partner in Vellore, India.

Responsibilities include:

- Technical Editorial Contributions - Scope out reviews and identify priority topics in consultation with specialists, draft dissemination products, support author teams with advice and help with topic of appraisal reviews.
- Translation - help assemble products for guideline groups, draft dissemination products and assist with the social media dissemination of review findings.
- Teaching and other research - contribute to the programme short courses overseas, actively contribute to submissions for grant funding and partner capacity development.
- Clinical - use clinical expertise to identify and prioritise systematic research questions, identify areas of emerging clinical need that require systematic review and interact with LMIC clinicians to co-create systematic reviews that address local research priorities.
- MBBS degree or equivalent
- Postgraduate professional qualification, such as the Diploma of Tropical Medicine, or a health-related Masters’ degree
- Knowledge of systematic reviews and RCT trial basics
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Experience of biomedical / social science research in LMICs
- A relevant PhD would be desirable, but is not essential
