The Role

The Student Success Unit is responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of an outstanding and distinctive student experience so that students have a high-quality University experience. As part of Student Success, the Careers Service supports all students and recent graduates towards a positive graduate outcome.

Newcastle University is ranked in the Top 10 nationally for student and graduate entrepreneurship*. Currently there are over 200 START UP-supported businesses trading with a combined annual turnover of over £155 million. Between them, they've raised over £19 million in external investment, won national and global awards and created over 1,000 full-time equivalent jobs.

You will work as part of a team tasked with supporting graduate success through enterprise and entrepreneurship. Working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, you will work across the curriculum, co-curricular and extra-curricular space.

You will support the development of the core student offer to provide start up and entrepreneurship opportunities to all students and recent graduates. Supporting more students and recent graduates to consider self-employment/ starting their own business and supporting students and recent graduates to develop competencies to lead to a rewarding, self-determined professional career whilst adding significant social, cultural and economic value through their entrepreneurial activity.

Interviews will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 26 March and the morning of Wednesday 27 March.

Key Accountabilities
Support the development and delivery of our start-up and entrepreneurship offer.
Design, deliver and evaluate online and in-person interventions that inspire and support students to develop enterprising and entrepreneurial behaviours, attributes, and competencies and entrepreneurial intent.
Design, deliver and evaluate online and in-person pathways, activity and initiatives that inspire and support all entrepreneurial ambitions including becoming self-employed and working on a freelance or consultancy basis, company creation, social entrepreneurship.
Use a coaching approach to support the development of the individual and the idea/ opportunity. Provide one-to-one support to students and recent graduates enabling them to explore their motivations and aspirations, to recognise and validate business opportunities and start and run businesses referring them to sources of business advice, specialist advice and funding as appropriate.
Facilitate the development of peer-to-peer support networks of entrepreneurial students and graduates.
Develop cross functional co-operation and support, sharing relevant and useful information with others including immediate colleagues in the Careers Service in order to achieve a joined-up approach.
Provide expert support to academic staff and Careers Service colleagues, embedding enterprise and entrepreneurship education into the curriculum.
Maintain awareness of the UK policy landscape and best practice in the sector in relation to enterprise and entrepreneurship education and start-up support.
Provide support to university colleagues through the provision of information, training, case studies to ensure students consider creating their own Graduate Outcome by becoming self-employed and working on a freelance or consultancy basis/ starting a business.
Build collaborative relationships with educators, alumni, and relevant organisations to strengthen the student-graduate experience and to ensure students and graduates have a clear pathway of support that extends beyond the University.
Take responsibility alongside the team and Senior Manager for the curation and animation of social and co-working spaces for student and graduate businesses.
Proactively ensure that opportunities are accessible, inclusive and provide an equitable learning experience for students.
**Support the collection of Higher Education Provider Data**: Business and Community Interaction from our start-up community and related reporting requirements.
Undertake appropriate research and evaluate the outcomes and impact of all interventions. Using these insights to continually review and evolve the offer and disseminate findings regionally and nationally through conferences, relevant journals and communication channels.
Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders including students, graduates, start-ups, practitioners, academics and the wider business support network in order to gather relevant feedback and insights, jointly assess needs and ensure that targets are met, and quality practice is embedded and sustained strategic
