Job overview

Adult Critical Care are looking to employ a motivated and conscientious Critical Care medical device lead to join our friendly and dynamic multi professional team caring for critically ill patients and their families. The post holder will be a proactive role model who leads in the clinical environment on the provision and education around medical devices and assessment of competence in Critical Care. You will co-ordinate the management of medical, scientific and laboratory equipment within the Acute Pathway and Critical Care areas, working with the provider(s) of medical equipment maintenance. the post holder will lead and support the medical device team in the roll out of new equipment to critical care, through the procurement process, consumables, liaising with company representatives and the delivery of training.

The post holder should be a registered nurse with a degree in nursing or health related studies. They should have completed post registration education in critical care together with a mentor /assessor qualification.
They should have recent experience in Critical Care, both care of level 2 & 3 patients.

You will need to lead the team in the development of Critical Care by promoting excellence and having innovative thinking. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure in what can be a stressful environment with complex situations. The Critical Care service at the Queens Medical Centre Campus encompasses 29 Level 3 beds on Adult Intensive Care and 20 Level 2 beds on High Dependency. Critical Care at the City Campus consists of a combined unit with 17 beds.

The Medical Devices Lead will:
Lead in the management of medical, scientific and laboratory equipment within the Acute Pathway and Critical Care areas, working with the provider(s) of medical equipment maintenance.

Overall responsibility for equipment maintenance ensuring high standards to include decontamination and service/ repair in an appropriate time frame

Lead for fleet management, end of life notice and fleet replacement planning. Provide recommendations for replacement making use of complex data for analysis and giving consideration to a range options when determining appropriate devices for replacement

To lead the education and induction of new staff in all aspects of equipment usage and safety, i.e. setting alarms, troubleshooting, general care and maintenance

To assist lead for education to put in place systems and processes to monitor the education and training of staff to ensure they have a training programme to meet their development needs and achieve their required competencies.

Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s “We Listen, We Care” behavioural standards.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration
- Relevant post-basic qualification in Critical Care specialist pathway (ENB 100 or equivalent)
- Evidence of academic learning at Level 3 or equivalent
- Introductory management course
- Possession of NMC Mentoring Course
- Degree in health / nursing related studies or equivalent level of study

Desirable criteria
- Masters in health / nursing related Studies
- Formal leadership and management training / course

Experience

Essential criteria
- Evidence of Critical Care knowledge and clinical practice
- Evidence of leadership, management & time management skills
- Evidence of expertise with medical devices
- Evidence of appropriate delegation, support and supervision of all staff
