If so, we have an opportunity for you to join our friendly team of Podiatrists at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation Trust Community Division. This Clinical Specialist Podiatrist post will take place at the community podiatry clinics within theWigan and Leigh footprint as well as regular domiciliary visits to residential homes or patients' houses. The role may require travel to all Care Community bases due to service pressures.

You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent clinical and communication skills which are essential as you will be providing a quality service to ‘High Risk’ patients in a variety of settings.

The role will involve clinical assessment and treatment of patients referred to the Podiatry department.

As this is a Specialist Role you will need to have undertaken mentorship and gained experience in all aspects of podiatry and have developed excellent skills in these areas. You will need to have experience in wound care as this is the greatest proportion of our caseload. NHS experience is preferred.

This is a permanent part time role (25 hours) across Monday to Friday. Flexible requests will be considered.

Our podiatry caseload focuses on those who are medically at risk so consequently our patients tend to be complex with a variety of needs. We offer specialist podiatry clinics including Wound Management clinics, Nail Surgery and MSK Podiatry.

Work with other teams within the community division and wider neighborhood to provide seamless care to patients.

We require a podiatrist who has excellent communication and assessment skills.

This post involves contact with patients and families face to face within a community setting. Therefore it cannot be ruled out that the postholder may come in to contact with people who have COVID-19, although the Trust provides PPE and takes all reasonable steps to minimise risk.

**Responsibilities**:
Planning and Organisational Duties
- To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care to patients with a variety of medical and podiatric problems.
- To hold a high risk clinic and high risk domiciliary caseload, working at all times unsupervised and in line with departmental, professional and Trust protocols.
- To undertake specialist podiatry assessment and wound care clinics following the Diabetes foot care pathway
- To undertake complex biomechanical assessments and reviews, prescribing appropriate orthotics where indicated
- To provide a comprehensive podiatry service to people with diabetes and high risk condition including initial assessments, treatment/care planning, preventative, palliative, surgical and corrective care supported by appropriate health education, reviewing and evaluating as necessary.
- To deliver specific foot care education and advice to patients, relatives and carers.
- To carry out annual Diabetes assessments in all clinics.
- To refer on to other health care professionals when appropriate through agreed pathways, e.g. referrals to podiatry assistant, biomechanics service, A&E and secondary care.
- To carry out nail surgery procedures.
- To have the capability to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation including the drawing up and administration of adrenalin for anaphylactic shock, if required.
- To carry out biomechanical assessments.
- To manufacture and fit chair side appliances e.g. insoles and silicone devices.
- To follow departmental and Trust policies. To assist in the development and implementation of procedures and guidelines. To follow clinical guidelines but have the discretion to make own clinical diagnosis and decisions within professional boundaries where appropriate.
- To be responsible for the maintenance, rotation and ordering of clinical stock.
- To carry out clerical duties when necessary.
- To carry out other duties as required in line with role banding
- To audit and research areas of diabetes/high risk service in both primary and secondary care as and when required for both Care pathway work and Trust agendas.
