London, United Kingdom The Behavioural Insights Team Full time

Are you looking for a new challenge and want to join a successful and rapidly growing organisation? Do you have a passion for exploring new ways to change people's lives at a national scale through government policy? If so, we want to hear from you.

**What does an Assistant Director do?**

The Ending Youth Violence is a new venture between Stuart Roden and the Youth Endowment Fund and based at the Behavioural Insights Team. The Lab is dedicated to building a pipeline of high-quality interventions which are ready for - and committed to - robust impact evaluation by YEF or other funders. You can read more about us here.

To build the pipeline we will focus on 3 ways of working:

- Supporting the importation, adaptation, and early-stage testing of well evidenced approaches from overseas
- Working with UK organisations to develop strong ideas into evaluable interventions
- Working with Developers, Researchers, Practitioners, and Service Users to co-design new and innovative approaches

We are recruiting an Assistant Director who will be integral to the success of the Lab. You will be a high-performing and ambitious individual, comfortable working in a dynamic and changing environment and able to work with the Lab Director on all aspects of our work. This will include a range of areas including setting the strategic direction, leading on major operational issues, and overseeing the set-up, delivery and evaluation of the interventions we work with.

You will need excellent understanding of evaluation methodologies, including feasibility studies and pilot evaluations as well as Randomised Control Trials and Quasi Experimental Designs. A strong background in a relevant discipline such as child development, criminology or prevention science is essential, as is the ability to confidently represent the Lab with a range of external stakeholders, including funders, academics, charity leaders, senior civil servants and local government officials.

You will be involved in things like:

- Deploying a range of methods to identify promising youth violence interventions, which through our support could be a credible applicant for large-scale impact evaluation
- Making our projects happen by leading planning and design work with intervention providers, delivery bodies, local areas, evaluators
- Leading on the delivery and/or commissioning of early stage evaluation work such as feasibility studies and pilot evaluations to identify interventions which are ready to progress to full scale impact evaluation
- Supporting the Lab to raise its profile and secure additional funding, including speaking and conferences, attending roundtables and promoting our work with key stakeholders
- Engaging externally to spot opportunities to deliver on our mission and develop new and innovative approaches.

**What makes a great Assistant Director at the EYV Lab?**
- Commitment to our method and values. You are passionate about improving the lives of children and the role that high-quality evidence can play in that.
- Excellent understanding of evaluation methodologies. You will have strong knowledge of a range of methods and the ability to deliver these and to manage others to do so.
- Strategic Insights. You want to be part of setting the strategic direction and priorities for the Lab, and are confident in developing plans to deliver on those priorities.
- Stakeholder management. You are confident interacting at the highest-levels, including charity CEOs, senior academics and government Ministers
- Clear and convincing communications. You can explain complex topics in simple terms. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to flex your approach to a range of audiences
- Project Management. You can take responsibility for the delivery of a portfolio of complex projects to time, budget and quality whilst managing risks
- Developing yourself and others. You can nurture talent and energise people to perform at their best. You care about the success, development and wellbeing of others. Your regularly reflect on your strengths and areas for development and are committed to improvement

**Who are we and what can we offer you?**

We design and rigorously test new ideas across a range of areas such as health, crime and education, to establish what works and what doesn’t. We have helped Tuberculosis patients take their medicine; reduced police susceptibility to cyberattacks; and helped organisations close their gender pay gap.

We are looking for a passionate and imaginative individual who understands behavioural science and shares our thirst for evidence-based solutions to join our dynamic and growing team.

BIT really is a great place to work:

- We encourage flexible working and have a culture which enables this; for example flexible start and finish times and an IT set up which allows for easy working from home options
