Patient Navigator

**About the Role**:
Newport Pagnell Medical Centre are looking to recruit Patient Navigators to join our team. You will be required to work 21 hours per week between Monday to Friday over four days and be available on the fifth day to provide cover if needed. You will also be required to cover Saturday morning shifts on a rota basis.
We offer a comprehensive training programme to all our Patient Navigators where you will initially receive 1-1 training, followed by ongoing support from your trainer and Team Leaders.
There is more to this role than answering the phone and making appointments. In this essential front-line role at the practice, our Patient Navigators help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Greet patients, doctors and visitors in a polite and friendly manner
- Answer the telephone promptly and courteously
- Make appointments using SystmOne
- Administer the procedure for repeat prescriptions
- Open and sort all the Medical Centre post, both internal and external
- Ensure the smooth running of all surgeries and clinics
- Arrange hospital appointments where relevant
- Receive specimens ready for pathology laboratory collection
- Deal with general enquiries in a helpful and efficient manner
- Collate and sort paperwork from GPs and other Practice staff and deal with accordingly
- Inform patients of test results, in person, on the telephone or by letter
- Support colleagues to maintain an efficient and friendly team atmosphere
- Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
- Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
- Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
- Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
- Strong IT and administration skills;
- Strong customer service experience preferable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
