Medical Secretary

To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to Consultant(s), Medical Staff and the Departmental Team within the general procedures laid down for the Department. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded. The Medical Secretary is a part of a team and must regard the interests of the patient as paramount and, as such, must be aware of the Data Protection Act (1968) and be aware of the consequences of failure to comply with it.
To type (within agreed timescales), mostly from audio/digital dictation, radiology reports and other correspondence as required. Despatch reports promptly. To participate in the “Alert” system for notifying results. To take Minutes (as requested by Radiology Business Support Manager) at relevant departmental meetings with responsibility for circulating the Agenda prior to any meeting. To assist with the diary management of clinical/medical staff. To liaise with other hospitals, GPs and service users as required. To assist the Radiology Business Support Manager in CBU administrative duties as required. To provide support to the Consultants and junior Medical staff when other secretaries are absent due to sickness, annual leave, training etc. To assist Radiology Business Support Manager with the induction of new medical secretaries within the team, and to act as ‘mentor’ in helping them to understand office and hospital procedures. Participate in late rota to 8.00 PM as required - Monday to Thursday and until 6.00 PM on a Friday.
