An opportunity has become available for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join our Prenatal Screening Service. The role will assist the Prenatal Screening Lead Scientist in providing a highly specialised Foetal Anomaly Screening Program for a number of NHS Trusts within the East of England, extending to Northern Ireland UK and Eire, to nationally accepted standards.

We are looking to appoint a well-organised individual who enjoys working as part of a team. You must be capable of working independently while exercising personal initiative and able to organise workload based on the demands of the service. You will need to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a busy, challenging but rewarding environment. Able to negotiate and develop good working relationships. You must have a positive approach to change, willing to take on/learn new skills. You must be flexible in response to Service needs and be able to uphold the Trust values of Safe, Kind and Excellent at all time.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndrome screening results are checked, updated and reported in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with national guidelines.

You will be required to interpret and report screening results and to communicate abnormal results to the referring clinician or nominated deputy.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the information provided at the time of screening is accurate, and will be required to liaise with the laboratory, midwifery and obstetric staff to follow up any missing information.

You will also be involved in patient data management by recording patient results and outcomes in spreadsheets and databases and also ensuring that the filing and archiving of patient information is up to date.

You may on occasions be required to cover the screening service in the absence of the lead clinical scientist.

You will be able to plan and organise their own workload and is able to work with minimum supervision once fully trained.
