Clinical Trust Fellow - Higher (ST3+) for General Surgery

We are recruiting for aClinical Trust Fellow - Higher (Middle Grade) for General Surgerywho shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The post holder will be responsible for all the patients under the care of the Consultant Surgeon(s) to whose firm he/she is attached at the time and for the patients of all the Consultant Surgeons when 'on-call' and when covering for his/her colleagues
In addition, you will be responsible for arranging the patients' care, ordering their treatment and investigations. You will instruct the nursing staff in the care of patients. He/she will instruct the technical and professional staff in the investigations that are necessary for patient care, taking care to make sure other departments are fully informed of all necessary information.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust is the largest acute trust and district general hospital in Kent. We have a proud history, originating in 1905 when a Royal Naval Hospital was opened on the site. Just over a century later, Medway NHS Foundation Trust was the first hospital in Kent to achieve Foundation Trust status. We continue to expand and modernise the array of services on offer to the people of the Medway towns, Swale and the wider West Kent region. Medway is an Associated University Hospital with strong links to the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools. The surgical directorate consists of General Surgery including Colorectal, Breast, Paediatric Surgery and performs laparoscopic surgery, ENT, Urology and Orthopaedics.
There are 10 main theatres and four day case units. The Surgical Department has 85 emergency and elective beds and 11 children's emergency and elective beds. We have a separate Endoscopy unit that has JAG accreditation.
The duties will consist of the inpatient care (Medway Maritime Hospital) and outpatient care of patients and other surgical Consultants' patients when they are on shift. The SpR will admit and clerk patients to the Medway Maritime. Admissions at weekends and out of normal working hours will be clerked by the duty House Surgeon or Senior House Officer.
The SPR is responsible for all the patients under the care of the Consultant Surgeon(s) to whose firm they are attached at the time and for the patients of all the Consultant Surgeons when 'on-call' and when covering for their colleagues. The SpR will refer to their Consultant when problems exceed their authority and experience and they will support and advise the House Surgeon who will refer to them.
The SpR must maintain liaison between other SPRs who are on duty before and after him/her to maintain adequate continuity and communication of patient care. The SpR is responsible for arranging the patients' care, ordering their treatment and investigations. They will instruct the nursing staff in the care of patients and the technical and professional staff in the investigations that are necessary for patient care, taking care to make sure other departments are fully informed of all necessary information.
