**The role**:
The High Performance Networks Group (HPN), part of the Smart Internet Lab (SIL), is an international leader and influencer in optical networks, 5G and beyond networks, data centre networks and smart city infrastructure. With UK and European funding over £45m, the Smart Internet Lab has established well-equipped research platforms and testbeds, including 5G UK testbed with operational 5G networks, a city-level metro experimental network and advanced optical transmission and networking testbed with access to field-trial fibre links provided by National Dark Fibre Facility. We seek a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a passion for research in future optical networks, optical transmission, sensing and quantum networks to join our team.

**What will you be doing?**:

- Undertake research and development necessary to achieve the goals aligned with the mission of the ALLEGRO project.
- Contribute to the development of algorithms to manage coexisting QKD and Classic optical networks
- Carry out research in QKD enhanced future optical networks with lab demonstrations and publications
- Prepare progress reports, project deliverables, and participate in project meetings.
- A proven track record of relevant scientific publications,
- Demonstrated lab experience in optical transmission or optical networks,
- Understanding of QKD technologies
- The ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications.
- An MSc or PhD in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering, or another closely related field, or relevant experience.
- Excellent verbal and presentation communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people, and an excellent ability to work as part of a team, to be open-minded and cooperative.
