Purpose of job

Support the Quality Manager, review and evaluate the quality of assessment processes and practice. Support the Quality Manager, and monitor the quality of assessor performance, identify assessor development needs and facilitate assessor development to maintain and improve the quality of assessment. Ensure documentation and records meet quality and regulatory requirements.

Key duties and responsibilities
- Monitor, review and evaluate the quality of assessment processes and practice and ensure Awarding Organisation standards are maintained
- Monitor the quality of assessor performance, identify assessor development needs, and facilitate assessor development to maintain and improve the quality of assessment
- Complete a cycle of observations of assessment practice and provide feedback to Assessors
- Ensure documentation and records meet quality and regulatory requirements
- Determine whether assessment processes and systems meet and operate according to quality requirements
- Record and monitor Assessors’ occupational competence to meet the requirements of the qualification specification and Awarding Organisation requirements
- Agree and prioritise assessor learning needs and produce individual development plans with assessors to reflect these
- Provide assessors with feedback, advice and support to help them maintain and improve their assessment practice
- Track Learner progress and check that assessments are planned, prepared for and carried out according to agreed timescales
- Ensure assessment methods are, fair, valid and reliable, and that learner evidence is authentic and current
- Complete systematic sampling of learner portfolios to check assessment decisions are made using specified criteria as set out in the qualification specifications
- Carry out standardisation activity, validating assessor decisions to ensure they are consistent
- To chair and minute standardisation and qualification specific assessor meetings as appropriate
- Liaise with Exams Officer and have timely notification of all qualifications to be claimed together with relevant documentation to prove authenticity of claims
- Liaise with Exams Officer regarding the arrangement and secure storage of all Learner portfolios until sampled by the Awarding Organisation
- Liaise with curriculum staff regarding External Quality Assurance visits and be actively involved in supporting these visits
- Follow agreed procedures when there are significant concerns about the quality of assessment decisions
- Commitment to promoting equality and diversity

GENERAL DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

- Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults and work within the framework of the Centre Safeguarding Policy.
- Support the ethos and values of Portland Training, its marketing, publicity and recruitment activities.
- Work co-operatively and collaboratively with all colleagues.
- Any other duties as required by the Quality Manager

Qualifications/skills required

Minimum:

- L4 Internal Quality Assurance Award
- L3 Education and Training or equivalent
- L3 Assessors Award or equivalent
- GCSE English grade C or equivalent
- GCSE grade C or equivalent

Desirable:

- PGCE - Post Compulsory Education
