Data and analytics are of critical importance for AXIS and will be absolutely fundamental in reaching AXIS’ goal of becoming the recognized leader in specialty underwriting with expertise, products, and services that directly meet our brokers’ needs.

Simply put, we want to turn data into information, that can be used to:

- Enable decisions to be made with confidence, based on information not just intuition.
- Be proactive, using information to identify new opportunities, and getting to them before our competitors.
- Realize cost savings, finding ways to make processes more efficient, enabling our people to focus on using their skills to further add business value.

The Data Governance team will be instrumental in building the core foundations that will revolutionise the way that data is thought about and used at AXIS. The team will work in amongst the business, understanding the roles and interactions the AXIS community have with data. They will:

- use the knowledge gained from this to build out policies and frameworks to ensure that data is treated and interpreted consistently across the business, ultimately enabling us to maximise the value of our data.
- Leverage the relationships built with the business to educate and train the AXIS citizens to effectively manage data throughout their day to day working lives.

What will you do in this role?
- Overseeing / leading a team of data governance analysts to proactively design the AXIS policies, frameworks and standards that will enable us to best use our data to maximize profit for the organization.
- Lead the team to build out policies and frameworks to accompany all data working practices that will enable work to be approached in a consistent way, resulting in consistent and scalable solutions
- Built and maintain a central data catalogue, build out a practice for developing data definitions and make these accessible and useful for the organization, bringing clarity to where to access data, and how to use and interpret it.
- Build and maintain the policies for master and reference data management, work with the business and the supporting BTS functions to implement this across the organization in a consistent, scalable way.
- Support the training and development of data owners, data stewards, data users, data creators, and all other AXIS employees to ensure that the value of data is known and understood and that it is being used appropriately to maximize that value.
- Together with the head of data architecture, stand up and oversee a data design authority to ensure that data standards are adhered to in all technology, operational and process decisions both within and outside of the D&A organization.
- Implement a governed process for remediating data completeness issues through training and systems change.
- Work with relevant teams to develop an appropriate AI governance and ethics framework, educate the business about the importance of AI governance. Implement and enforce.
- Work with the data protection officer to ensure that data governance and data protection are working together and policies and procedures and consistent and aligned.
- Has a broad understanding of the long-term strategies of AXIS. Ensures that the data governance strategy contributes to, and align with, the overarching strategic goals of the business.
- Directly manages and develops the technical, administrative, and managerial skills of the data governance team through coaching, educational offerings, work assignments, and other developmental opportunities.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

This role reports to the Chief Data and Analytics Officer.
