**FP&A Business Partner**
Working with the Trading and Optimisation Department

Based at Wilton International, Teesside or Solihull, West Midlands

**Role Purpose**:
Responsible for assessing the financial value-add activities in the department, reporting to the FP&A UK Manager. The incumbent will be a core member of Sembcorp UK’s Finance team conducting financial analysis and appraisal of the T&O value-delivery, working closely with the department as well as the wider business.

Financial appraisal of the function to maximise gross margin - by assessing decisions for optimising the product portfolio against the asset utilisation across the UK businesses.

Whilst being a key part of finance, the activities of the role will be immersed in the function. This includes close contact with traders and analysts, understanding of the commodity markets we trade in, how we optimise our assets and requires strong influencing and communication skills.

The role will be responsible for presenting results in appropriate formats to a range of audiences (including Board, internal management and external parties).

**Key responsibilities**:

- Forecasting and budgeting the departments gross margin plus assessing actual performance against targets with gap analysis
- Assessment of decision making alongside hedging strategy
- Comparing the gross margin benefits from each of the markets that the function chose to operate in (e.g. different system services markets, wholesale market) to support decision making
- Comparison of T&O value achieved against targets and industry benchmarks
- Analyse financial productivity of the T&O function and link into forward strategy
- Analyse the value added from trading forward/ within day versus the market
- Financial gross margin appraisal of shifting generation from asset to asset, peaking assets and optimising asset flexibility to generate profit
- Analyse profit margin by relevant portfolios to support future strategy (i.e. by dis-aggregating total gross margin by asset-type and product type)
- Use technology solutions to automate processes (including data gathering) and producing high quality analysis to demonstrate the value of the T&O team (examples of data include utilizing trading databases, metering systems, settlements data).
- Participate in strategy meetings with management to understand the direction setting of the company
- Arrange and facilitate workshops to create action plans on how to support financially to succeed with the strategy

**Requirements**:
**Essential**
- Relevant accountant qualification - strong accounting background with minimum three years post qualification experience
- Ability to work with strategic concepts that can drive a company’s targets
- Clearly measure and articulate the value the role brings to the business
- Excellent communicator in order to influence and challenge to ensure processes and activities are geared towards maximum performance
- Highly skilled with technology and ability to use intelligent tools (including Excel) to automate and analyse financial and operational information
- Build relationships as a trusted advisor
- Ability to dive into data and succinctly summarise key points to non-finance audience
- Curiosity and continuous improvement mindset

**Desirable**
- Experience of working in the energy sector, alongside a trading function, and the specific accounting issues related to the industry
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of a T&O function’s objectives
- Understanding of commodity markets plus the associated regulatory framework that affects the gross margin associated with a T&O function in the UK would be an advantage
- Working knowledge of SAP an advantage
