We have an exciting opportunity to work in a truly unique environment at the UK’s number 1 zoo As an Events Shift Leader in our Food & Beverage department, you will be responsible for supporting the Assistant Managers with the daily supervision of our Events team and taking a leading role in the management of events across the zoo, in particular within our Heritage Zone where our stunning new wedding and events space ‘The Square’ resides.

**The Role
The Square is part of our heritage zone and also includes our award winning gastro-pub, ‘The Oakfield’, where you will also support with events and general bar and restaurant duties as required.

As part of our Operational Event Management team, you will be provide support to the management of a busy event venue both operationally and through administrative duties, some of these tasks will include:

- Helping us to maintain and improve upon our exceptionally high standards to deliver a world class experience to all visitors.
- Operational delivery of all events to include client, guest, supplier and internal team liaison. Events will include a variety of meetings, conferences, dinner parties, weddings and unique events. Please note that operational shifts will include leading event closes and general venue lock up duties.
- Conduct menu tastings for wedding couples.
- Motivate, lead, train and mentor team members to deliver an exceptional guest experience - to include: team briefings, task allocations, rota assistance, incentive tracking, training, tip distribution, inductions, regular 1-2-1s and HR admin compliance e.g. return to work and legal documentation.
- Team uniform ordering using our online portal and conducting uniform stock takes and maintenance.
- Lead event set ups and ensure these are completed in a timely manner and to a high standard in line with departmental standard operating procedures
- Event preparations such as printing event packs and liaising with wider zoo departments regarding upcoming events
- Bar duties such as accepting bar deliveries, ensuring bar wastage is recorded daily, line cleaning, stock rotation and taking a leading role in the operational running of the bar to ensure sales targets are met.
- Support with stock control, including regular stock takes and ordering to ensure correct stock levels are in place daily.
- Assist with due diligence and compliance checks for the venue.
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping in all event spaces, so all are clean and well presented at all times.
- Receive payments and handle cash and ensure that all team members are also doing so correctly in accordance with Zoo policies. Complete cashing up at the end of the day, ensuring all accounts balance including the safe
- Ensure all team members are adhering to policies, developing standard operating procedures and safe working practices including food safety systems, ensuring health and safety, licencing, and other legislation is strictly observed
- Attending weekly management meetings.
- Organising team social events to boost morale and team spirit.
- On non-event days, you will also support the wider zoo teams, most commonly within the Food and Beverage Department. We are all one team.

**The Package**

You’ll be working a variety of shifts, including days and evenings for events such as weddings and corporate functions. Contract hours are 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis including weekends and bank holidays. Overtime will be paid for all agreed additional hours above this.
- Permanent contract
- £23,529.34 per annum (equivalent of £11.31 per hour) based on 40 hours per week - Grade 5

**Our Requirements
- Experience of working in the events and/or hospitality industry
- Experience of supervising and motivating a team in a high-volume business, preferably an events venue
- Hold a full clean driving license
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience and confidence in dealing with conflict management
- Ability to think on your feet and adapt to a multitude of difference scenarios
- A keen eye for detail and passion for high standards
- Cash handling experience including balancing of safe/float/tills
- Good working knowledge of IT
- Good working knowledge and experience of Food Safety and Health & Hygiene Safety processes
