We are looking for a post-doctoral scientist to help us engage and collaborate with the academic and industrial research community, promote and grow our brand, and spearhead our digital PR strategy.

Our mission is to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery in fields related to renewable energy, organic displays, and materials science. In the past, we have collaborated on a wide variety of projects including post-doctoral training centres and major EPSRC research projects, as well as workshops and other training events. However, in recent years, our R&D team has not had time to engage with such projects. Meanwhile, our marketing team have been increasing sales effectively by working on content and search engine optimisation (SEO) but without going to physical conferences and exhibitions.

If you have experience in academia and enjoy discussing and engaging with researchers working on a wide variety of exciting projects across multiple fields, this is where you come in. We are looking for someone to be our “missing link” between the academic and business worlds. As someone with a passion for communication, it will be your role to represent the business (both face-to-face and digitally) via a range of outreach, brand building, and PR activities. The position requires both technical expertise and the ability to build strong relationships with external collaborators, academics, scientific journalists, conference organisers, professional bodies, and more.

To be successful, you will need to have excellent communication skills, a passion for scientific engagement at international research level, the desire to be part of a successful business team, and the data analysis skills to measure and quantify the effects of your work on multiple fronts. There are lots of opportunities for collaboration open to us, so you will need to be analytical and methodical in choosing which engagements will grow sales by supporting both our business aims and our brand ethos.

**The Role**

The role is for an initial one-year period, with permanence a realistic possibility if the strategy proves effective. The job will require a certain amount of travel (e.g. to attend conferences or exhibitions) but you will primarily be based on-site in our new open plan office and R&D space at our headquarters in Sheffield. There is a lot of opportunity for growth in this role and we expect there to be a steep learning curve, but support will be provided from the rest of the team.

The role will evolve over time, but your day-to-day activity will likely include the following:

- Reviewing requests for collaboration, making initial enquires and selecting projects to support
- Acting as the main point of contact for our collaborators and external partners
- Writing letters of support and engaging with collaborators’ projects
- Working with academics and educational institutions on scientific outreach programs
- Finding suitable conferences to sponsor and negotiating favourable sponsorship packages
- Liaising with customers who have applied for our conference grant to maximise impact
- Attending conferences, workshops, and other face-to-face networking/collaboration events
- Finding suitable industry awards to enter and writing winning award entries
- Managing the media presence of Ossila, getting us featured/quoted in relevant articles
- Working with the team to create new content as required to support digital PR campaigns
- Managing our backlink profile, monitoring performance and following up on new opportunities
- Analysing data to assess the impact of each approach on our metrics and bottom line

Your primary objective will be to increase the profile of Ossila by bridging the gap between us and our customers, strengthening our brand, and acquiring new links to our website from respected third parties.

**About You**

To thrive in this role, you will need to be passionate and excited about talking to researchers about their work. You must also be able to effectively engage with the research community in order to help build a global business.

Essential requirements:

- A PhD related to organic electronics, materials, thin film semiconductors, or other relevant field
- Excellent English-language communication skills, both face-to-face and via written communication
- Strong data analytical skills and an experimental approach to testing and developing new ideas
- The desire to learn new skills and pursue a career in scientific marketing at an ambitious SME
- Ability to self-organise and manage projects efficiently with mínimal need for supervision
- The ability to reliably commute to Attercliffe, Sheffield and the right to work in the UK
