Working in the Chemotherapy Daycase at City Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the scheduling and booking of chemotherapy appointments, ensuring deferrals/referrals are dealt with efficiently and in a timely manner and that Trust Cancer targets are met. Escalating any issues to the Admin Manager & Service Manager and/or Senior Nursing team as appropriate. Acting as Deputy to the Receptionists and covering reception when required.

The post holder will work closely with clinical colleagues to monitor and assist with the flow of patients and treatments for the unit.

A good telephone manner with the ability to show initiative and flexibility in answering queries from patients, nursing staff and doctors is essential as well as an efficient and empathetic manner.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for adding/removing patients to the NUH waiting list and co-ordinating/booking their admission to hospital, using hospital IT systems e.g. Medway PAS/Bookwise.

Ensure patients are added to correct waiting lists using hospital standard operating procedures, Medway PAS and bookwise.

***Working to agreed protocols to negotiate patient admissions for chemotherapy procedures and minor procedure treatments.

***Provide appropriate confirmation letter of TCI to patient, along with any relevant supporting information.

Ensure all relevant patient information is recorded on the Trust’s IT systems and updated accordingly in line with Trust Access Policy and Procedures.

Ensure RTT patient data is accurate at all times.

***Amend patient information and admission requirements in line with Clinical requests on bookwise.

Produce speciality lists for multi-disciplinary scheduling meetings, attend meetings, and undertake all required follow up actions to support patient admission

Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Good command of the English language - both written and spoken. GCSE Level or equivalent standard in Maths/English
- NVQ Level 2/3 Business Admin

Desirable criteria
- Experience of hospital systems such as MEDWAY NOTIS and Medical Office.

Experience

Essential criteria
- A recent past NHS experience
- Demonstrate knowledge of waiting list processes
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality

Desirable criteria
- 18 week RTT knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of bookwise

Communication and relationship

Essential criteria
- Ability to develop good working relationships with medical and other hospital staff at all levels
- Willing and able to work as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise workload and use own initiative
- Ability to communicate verbally in a clear and effective way both face to face and on the telephone
