We are looking for two outstanding public health policy and strategy officers to support a portfolio of work that improves the health and wellbeing of Londoners. You will:

- work closely with the GLA Group Director of Public Health and the wider team
- support two or more of the Public Health Consultants, each of whom will have their own portfolio of work with GLA group functional body stakeholders
- lead on drafting required documentation and briefings, developing, maintaining and ensuring delivery of project plans, planning and setting up meetings, liaising with a wide range of senior colleagues across partner organisations
- be part of a small team based in the GLA (Union Street SE1)

The GLA Group Public Health Unit has city-wide public health responsibilities. We use a public health approach to implement the Mayor’s statutory health inequalities strategy for London and deliver the health in all policies approach across the GLA group functional bodies; GLA, LFC, LLDC, MOPAC, OPDC and TfL. Our work helps to build a better London for everyone - a safer, fairer, greener and more prosperous city for all Londoners.

**Principal accountabilities**:

- Support the development, delivery and embedding of the - GLA Group Public Health shared service function, including contributing to planning and project management of work.
- Lead, contribute to and coordinate input from others to projects and briefings, on behalf of the public health team, as relevant to the Public Health Consultants’ portfolios. This could include identifying, monitoring, analysing and interpreting data and information from a wide range of sources under the managerial guidance of the consultant.
- Be responsible for the scoping and development of other related public health projects identified in response to changes in Mayoral policy and ambition, GLA Group priorities, government policy direction, changes in the health and care system, public health needs or in other relevant areas of public policy.
- Coordinate and contribute to various corporate processes, developing, maintaining and ensuring delivery of project plans as appropriate, planning and setting up meetings, liaising with a wide range of senior colleagues and, as part of a virtual team, working with partner organisations as required.
- Realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London’s communities, particularly in the context of the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on some of those communities.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**:
**Technical requirements/experience/qualifications**
- Understanding of the public health system and public health principles and practice is desirable, although applicants with strong transferable skills and experience will be considered.
- Substantial experience of co-ordinating work across a number of stakeholders working in a partnership environment, which could include public sector agencies, voluntary and community groups and the private sector.
- Good drafting skills, with the ability to produce or contribute to the production of concise, clear papers (in Word and PowerPoint format) for a range of meetings, committees and Boards.
- Experience of working in multiple-project programmes and ensuring they deliver results on target and within budget, with first-hand experience of negotiation and monitoring issues and risks.
