**Job Title**: Teaching Assistant, Pre-Prep School

**Hours**: Part-time, 15.5 hours per week

Monday and Tuesday 8.30am - 3.00pm (30 minute unpaid lunch)

Wednesday 8.30am - 12.00pm

Term time only

**Salary**: Band A Point 17 £22,338 pro rata, FTE

Actual gross salary based on a full academic year (£6,490)

**Responsible to**: Head of Pre-Prep

**Main Purpose of Job**:

- To provide essential support for class teachers and take direction from teachers and school leaders, assisting with administrative tasks as needed, and to contribute to a duty timetable, including duties, to ensure the smooth running of the class, and of Pre-Prep, within the wider context of the school
- To respect and value the School's ethos and vision and work in partnership with other colleagues to facilitate our creative curriculum that puts well-being at the heart
- To support children in and out of the classroom. This may involve supporting small groups or individuals, assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources
- Supervise whole classes occasionally in the short term absence of the teacher by maintaining order and keeping pupils on task

**ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS**
- Responsible to the Head of Pre-Prep but works with a qualified teacher on a day to day basis
- Liaise with teachers, other support staff, health and education specialists, parents, visitors and volunteers

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR ACTIVITIES**

**Support for Pupils**
- Use curricular/learning skills and experience to support pupils regardless of need. This includes being actively aware of Personal Learning Plans where appropriate
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, reinforcing our Pre-Prep code of conduct and behaviour management policy, and setting high expectations while encouraging pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others
- Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs and at the same time promote the inclusion of all pupils
- Employ strategies to recognise and reward children for their achievement, attitude, behaviour and learning characteristics, within the framework of our Pre-Prep ethos and policies
- To develop an understanding and awareness of the reading and maths spelling needs of the children, and under supervision of the teacher, setting books that are appropriately levelled, supporting children in their spellings and feeding back to the teacher
- Having an active awareness and understanding of the personal, social, emotional and health needs of all of the children. Provide a listening ear to children and feedback to the teacher with regards to well-being

**Support for the Teacher**
- Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate, and establishing an appropriate learning environment
- Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectives and provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence
- Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested and undertaking marking, filing and presentation of pupils’ work and accurately recording achievement/progress. Assist with administering assessments
- Promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy, in a way that is consistent with the teacher, and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
- Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents with, or as directed
- Provide general clerical/admin support e.g. administer coursework, produce worksheets for agreed activities etc
- Provide information for parents evenings when appropriate

**Support for the Curriculum**
- Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs including the literacy and mathematics programme
- Help pupils to access learning activities across our creative curriculum, such as supporting topic work in or out of the classroom or taking pupils to specialist lessons such as Dance and Music, and where appropriate, joining in and setting an example
- Support with preparing and maintaining general and specialist equipment and resources

**Support for the School**
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
