Job description

**North Somerset’s Virtual School is looking to appoint to the new role of Virtual School Extended Officer. This is a strategic role with a focus on influencing teaching practice in schools to improve the educational outcomes of children and young people with a social worker.**

**About the role**

The post holder will support colleagues across the council, headteachers, designated safeguarding leads and governors to close the gap and improve educational outcomes for children with a social worker through developing a clear identification of learning needs; recognising barriers to learning and demonstrating how to overcome these; leading on programmes of work and approaches to engagement.

The person appointed will work as part of the Virtual School Team and report to the Virtual School Headteacher.

**Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.**

This is a fixed term position until 31st March 2025 due to external funding.

**About you**

The person appointed would work as part of the Virtual School Team to champion the educational needs of children with a social worker and promote their education and educational outcomes.

Experience within the relevant children’s services environment (i.e. schools, colleges or local authority) preferably at a middle management/senior level is essential.
