Job description

**North Somerset’s Virtual School is seeking to appoint a Secondary Education Advisor on a permanent basis.**

**About the role**

The staff of the Virtual School monitor the educational progress and achievement of children in the care of North Somerset Council and have a focus of raising the educational achievement of these children and young people, both as individuals and as a cohort.

The Virtual School also holds the responsibility for offering advice and guidance in respect of educational matters for previously looked after and adopted children and young people and offering strategic support for children and young people with a social worker.

The focus of this role is on secondary aged students and will involve working with colleagues in schools and across other agencies to ensure that every secondary aged student is able to thrive and achieve their true education potential.

**Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.**

**About you**
- Qualified Teacher Status and experience of teaching within secondary school settings is essential. (Preferably Assistant Headteacher or Deputy Head level)
- Proven knowledge of education systems in secondary schools, assessment frameworks and how to challenge under-achievement
- Awareness of the issues and needs around attachment and trauma and advocate for our young people.
- Proven ability to reduce the need for exclusions in school through trauma informed practice.
- Direct Virtual School experience and /or experience of working with Designated Teachers and other professionals who support children who have social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties or who are disaffected in an education setting
- Proven ability to identify priorities for improvement of children in care/ vulnerable learners and experience in providing advice and support to develop practice through experience of knowing the target setting process in schools.
