**Job Purpose**

To work with children and their families to provide trauma informed support with the aim of reducing trauma symptoms, rebuilding relationships fractured by domestic abuse and helping parents understand the impact of domestic abuse on their children so they are better able to support them. The post holder will work with families to ensure they are linked in with additional universal and targeted provision across Merseyside.

**Duties and responsibilities**

Support Practitioners will be skilled in delivering a range of interventions to adults to build strength, enhance resilience and encourage progress. The post holder will be responsible for providing key work support to a small case load of individuals will have the primary role of providing and co-coordinating support interventions and multi-agency activity.
- To work as part of the daytime Support Team
- To ensure each service user will receive personalised support taking into account their identified risks and personal needs
- To provide a safe, welcoming environment with excellent standards and an ethos of service delivery that encourages all service users to engage with support on offer
- To respond to emergency referrals and/or situations.

**Specific Duties**
- To undertake assessment of need for children and families and devise a child-focussed support plan
- Utilise evidence-based approaches to strengthen attachments and build relationships that have been fractured as a result of domestic abuse
- Utilise trauma informed ways of working to reduce trauma symptoms/distress in children and young people
- Work with families in order to increase stability and reduce risk
- To assist parents/carers in their understanding of the impact of domestic violence in order that they might respond appropriately to the emotional needs of children and young people
- To attend and initiate multi agency meetings such as Child In Need meetings and case
- conferences where required
- To ensure that children and families receive holistic support that is appropriate to their needs, including brokering pathways and referring into other services where appropriate
- To deliver programmes of group work as required
- To work jointly and in partnership with other agencies and community organisations to meet the defined needs of service users
- To assist with the production of reports as required by our funders

**Health and Safety**
- To liaise with all emergency services when necessary
- Ensure at all times the safety of yourself and others on the premises in which you work
- To conduct daily Health and Safety checks
- To report, log and communicate all incidents to the appropriate people
- Conduct welfare checks as specified during the shift
- Ensure adherence to YMCA Together visitor’s policy and procedure
- To adhere to all risk management protocols.

**Teamwork**
- To share information and expertise with the team, covering absence, and working together to provide a high-quality service
- To contribute to the formulation of policy and procedures in relation to support services
- To attend and participate in regular team meetings to ensure good communication.

**Professional Practice and Development**
- Attend regular supervision sessions with the Service Manager in accordance with the supervision contract
- Maintain good professional practice and ensure ongoing development, through use of supervision and training
- Respect the confidentiality of clients using the service and be responsible for the security of personal and confidential information
