How would you like to join our central Safety & Operations Assurance Team here at Stagecoach?

Stagecoach is the largest provider of bus services in the UK with 24,000 employees and over 100 million passenger journeys a year. Safety is at the core of everything we do across all of our operations at Stagecoach, so this is a really important role in our business

We’re at the cutting edge of technology and services in the bus industry, from autonomous bus travel, guided busways, electrification of fleet, and digitisation of functional services. It’s an incredibly exciting time for our team of 6 Business Partners, and for the industry

We are looking for a Safety & Operations Business Partner to join our central Safety & Sustainability Team to cover for the team member’s exciting 6 months secondment. This is a challenging and rewarding role that will allow you to make a real difference in the safety, sustainability and operational performance of Stagecoach Bus.

As a Safety & Operations Business Partner, you’ll be responsible for providing safety, environmental, and operational support to our Bus Operating Companies within a defined area. You’ll be working with representatives from each Operating Company to implement safety strategies, improve risk control, reduce harm and complexity, and identify areas for continuous improvement.

You’ll also play an important part in providing assurance to the Regional Directors, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team for Operating Company performance around safety and environment.

Your development is a key consideration, we want you to be the best version of yourself, and look forward to working with you to define what your professional journey looks like, supported by leading tools and frameworks.

**Responsibilities**:

- Building proactive relationships with your Operating Companies (it’s a really hands on role)
- Support the evolution of our safety management system and environmental management system, facilitating and leading improvements where identified.
- Support the senior management teams of your Operating Companies in running their Safety Forums, making sure that safety culture and safety leadership is promoted.
- Assisting your Operating Companies with identifying, managing and reducing their safety, environmental and operational risks through the establishment of a risk management approach.
- Providing an independent challenge to the safety performance of each Operating Company.
- Undertaking (major accident and incident) investigations, identifying root cause and making recommendations for future prevention.
- Providing assurance to the senior management of each Operating Company and the senior leadership team on safety, environmental and operational performance by undertaking audit and other assurance activities.
- Supporting the wider team and your Operating Companies in continuing to identify and undertake projects that support our Safety Always strategy.

What do we need from you?
- You’ll be up for the challenge of looking at the way we run our business in a different way.
- You’ll be an experienced safety practitioner, used to operating across multiple locations and passionate about making a difference
- You’ll be at least a Technical Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, working towards Chartered Member status and have experience of management system auditing.
- You’ll be a brilliant communicator (as you’ll have the opportunity to work with our employees at all levels of the organisation)
- You’ll understand the importance of being visible to the Operating Companies.
- You’ll have strong problem solving skills, and know how to use IT solutions to help deliver effective and documented outcomes
- You’ll know your way around a management system, even better if it’s 45001
- You’ll know about the UK regulatory framework, and can readily talk about how compliance isn’t the only tool in strong safety outcomes for Bus Operators

The important bits:

- Location is flexible but you must be able to spend the majority of your time in the area and be prepared to travel.
- We will provide you with the mentoring and coaching that you will need to undertake your role.
- We will provide you with a company / lease car to make sure you can easily get to our locations.

And that’s it

If you’re looking for a challenging and rewarding role in the safety and sustainability team, and you want to help keep our buses safe and running smoothly, we’d love to hear from you
