**Job Title**:
Payroll Administrator**Reporting to**:
Payroll Department Manager

**Job Purpose**:This reflects how and where the position fits within the business.

To run payrolls for clients and take care of payroll related queries. Deal with the HMRC and Pension Provider on behalf of the clients on payroll related issues.

**Key Objectives**:Most jobs are comprised of four to eight essential objectives or responsibilities. List below the essential responsibilities of the role

Make sure client payrolls are run on time, complying with legislation, i.e. PAYE, AE and GDPR.

Make sure information is submitted to the HMRC by the deadline dates, monthly and annually, according to our records.

Make sure Auto Enrolment is carried out where applicable and Pension reporting is provided as required by the client.

Make sure client understand laws relating to payroll

Answer client queries relating to payroll issues.

**Key Activities**:An activity is a particular work action performed to accomplish key objectives. It defines the methods, procedures and techniques by which responsibilities are carried out.

Collate information regarding the current payroll run.

Run a payroll using the software.

Check all reports and payslips produced and send to client.

Produce and submit RTI file to the HMRC.

Collate year end information.

Produce year end reports and distribute as required by the client.

**Key Relationships**:Insert both the internal and external relationships that will have to be established by a individual in order to succeed in the position.

External relationships with the clients in particular the employee responsible for the payroll at their end needs to be established.

Internal relationships with members of the accounts and tax teams should be established as there is often the need to pass on information.

**Decision Making**:Indicate the extent to which an individual has autonomy within their role. (level of sanctioning power)

Mostly, Payroll Administrators are responsible for making the decisions regarding the client’s payroll they are working on, they can ask for advice when necessary from the Payroll Department Manager, Partners or external services.

**Problem Solving**:Indicate the type of problems the individual will be expected to deal with and the extent to which he/shecan influence the way he/she undertakes and deals with the job’s problems.

Queries relating to payroll e.g. How much redundancy pay must I pay and why?

Payroll Administrator can research an answer themselves or find a relevant person in the firm to refer the query too. Confirming the advice with the Payroll Department manager

**Education, Training and Experience required**:

- A payroll foundation level qualification or
- About 2 years working ideally for a payroll bureau preferably within an Accountancy firm
- Good general standard of education

**Skills, knowledge and competencies**: include behavioural skills _(eg initiative, problem solving, results focus, influencing etc.) _and also technical skills _(eg.systems skills, IT skills, industry knowledge)_

- Flexible
- Calm
- Firm
- Knowledge of PAYE.
- Good Word and Excel skills.
- Knowledge of Payroll Professional, Star or Iris software
