**OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB**

To lead all activity related to the Emissions Laboratory to ensure that a world class test service is provided to all customers. As a secondary function control and execute the workload for on road RDE testing.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**.

1. Responsible for the loading of the Emissions Laboratory, so that all programme requirements are met, prioritising so that all requests are satisfied. The priority is work associated with the Emissions Laboratory, RDE test execution also forms a vital part of the role.

2. Receive job cards from customer departments and ensure that the task is completed in a timely manner and right first time with engineering excellence. Ensure that the Emissions Laboratory team, work collaboratively with the assigned customer engineers.

3. Ensure all work is covered by job cards, as tasks are completed they are signed off as complete and to a satisfactory standard. Ensure that the processes and procedures in place are right and appropriate together with being consistent with working within an ISO9001 / ISO17025 framework and VCA certification. Health and Safety compliance is mandatory.

4. Work together so that a world class service is provided to customer departments, so that the UK Emissions laboratory is the first choice supplier for WLTP development, certification, and COP test, as well as the RDE development, certification and in service conformity testing.

5. Responsible for the maintenance, compliance, and upkeep of the facility (including PEMS), so ensure that annual services, calibrations, TPM are conducted on time and Purchase requisitions / orders are in place in a timely manner. Ensure that the facility housekeeping is in order, with each area having assigned owners.

6. Ensure that Emissions Laboratory is run to a measured and controlled process which achieves a right first time value of 90%. Have controls in place for vehicle preparation / receiving and post test data integrity checks.

7. Ensure that the test consumables (fuel, span gases etc) are ordered so that testing is not interrupted and also responsible for the waste stream of the facility. Ensure that there is reconciliation back to Projects with the Finance Department.

8. Where there is an electrical or mechanical breakdown in the facility, responsible for the resolution, containment action implementation, root cause analysis and solution implementation. Document learning in a lessons learnt log so that repeat occurrences are avoided. In order to reduce the amounts of loss time in the facility consider raising support days that can be called on when needed.

9. Ensure that the emissions Laboratory is run to high levels of optimisation to reduce operating costs.

Specific knowledge, skills and experience requirements:

- Mechanical Engineering back-ground - ideally a degree qualification.
- Should have extensive knowledge of the operation of a chassis dynamometer, emission analysers and the installation.
- Have the ability to conduct the required testing and complete the drive cycles to the required standards with no deviations
- Be familiar with all data acquisition equipment and data loggers (INCA, Rebel loggers etc)
- Experience of AVL iGEM and AMA i60 analysers
- Familiar with all AVL Emissions equipment, and able to calibrate and maintain the equipment
- Knowledge of drive cycles and the adherence to them to ensure accurate, repeatable measurements
- Be comfortable with a time and measures system for all aspects of the job, able to work under time pressures and still produce quality results
- Be confident in the use of AVL Concerto, Microsoft Word, Uni Plot, Excel and be capable of operating Excel macro’s to perform data analysis tasks
- Working knowledge on EMROAD, OCS Route planner and database.
- Understands the requirements of OEM RDE results website.
- Knowledge of PEMs equipment would be an advantage - AVL, Horiba or Sensors
- Attention to detail and good communication skills
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and determined to succeed with a keen sense of continuous improvement and professional development
- Full clean driving licence
- IOSH Managing Safety Certificate
- Customer / Supplier interface skills.
- Flexible and prepared to work overseas as the business needs
