**Introduction**
The Project Delivery Team, within the In House Services and Estates Directorate in Parliament takes great pride in looking after and improving the buildings of Parliament itself, as custodians of the Estate. Our aim is to provide the right environments for Members and Staff whilst restoring and protecting our heritage buildings.
While we are part of the House of Commons service, we provide services to the House of Lords as well. We operate on a working World Heritage site which attracts visitors from all over the globe, in a challenging stakeholder environment where conservation and the need to innovate and build for the future coincide.
The Project Delivery Team is accountable for the delivery of all of the current major projects across the Parliamentary Estate, having recently undergone a reorganisation the team will focus on a portfolio management approach, alongside an enhanced focus on construction quality, cost scrutiny and consistency of approach whilst strengthening opportunities for professional development and career progression across the team.
We currently have approximately 120 projects with a portfolio value of £1.5bln. We have a stated aim to improve the predictability of our projects from both a time and cost perspective whilst not trading on quality or safety.
An Assistant Director is appointed to lead a number of projects. Depending on the size of a project the project structure will usually include a Senior Project Lead, a Project Leader and Assistant Project Lead. The Project Support Officer is responsible for the administration of a number of active projects, working across multiple project teams.
**The Role**
The Project Support Officer is the key point of support for a project, with responsibility for drafting, collating and reporting detailed and often sensitive information and bringing the right team members together when necessary to achieve required project outcomes to time and to the quality expected.
They are the glue that binds a team together to maintain project momentum and to ensure continued focus and achievement of targets and outputs.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Sending out monthly financial forecasts and ensuring they are returned on time;
- Escalating issues, queries or concerns to the line manager as required;
- Organising project or programme related meetings as and when required;
- Updating individual stakeholder action plans;
- Producing first drafts of documents and reports as and when required for approval by the Senior Project Leader;
**Skills and Experience**
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of working within and supporting a fast-moving team to ensure that the team objectives are delivered to time, budget, and agreed quality standards.
- Ability to identify, build and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to work successfully within a team, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- A committed team player, who can also work autonomously to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines in a challenging and complex environment.
- Explains and presents complex issues so that they are easy to understand and ensuring key project and programme issues are understood by stakeholders.
- Demonstrable financial and budget management, monitoring project spend and maintaining project budgets.
- The ability to assist in the establishment and maintaining of project controls, by keeping project manager aware of the project status.
