The Role

We seek to appoint a 1.0 FTE Lecturer in Digital Cultures to contribute to our recently launched BA(Hons) in Digital Cultures and Media.

The role-holder will be working in a team that is committed to diversity in its underpinning scholarship, in its representation of different knowledges, and inclusivity in its teaching methods, and our new colleague will help us further these aims. Therefore, we would welcome a colleague with research interests that include one or more of feminist approaches, queer studies, anti-colonial approaches, critical race approaches, communitarian approaches, and network politics. This role will be supported by the team’s commitment to critical digital scholarship and practice and social justice and diversity, as well as the School-wide commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in teaching, research and the workplace. Newcastle University provides support and flexibility for employees who are unpaid carers. Mentorships are offered by the department, and colleagues will be supported by university-wide networks such as the Race Equality Network and the Rainbow Network. Newcastle University is a Global Stonewall Diversity Champion and is committed to the race Equality Charter.

Our practical teaching on the Digital Cultures and Media programme centres on three key themes: digital storytelling, data and visualisation, and mobile and creative web. The role will be to teach diverse knowledges and approaches through practical digital skills related to one or more of these themes. Example areas of expertise may include data visualisation, artificial intelligence, digital platforms and media, interactive narrative, or many other related areas, but we welcome a wide range of possible skills and approaches.

The University has developed an Academic Job Summary Guidance document which summarises the range of activities that academic colleagues may be expected to perform.
