The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced and forward-thinking Careers Service that plays a crucial role in helping students from across the University to identify and progress into a variety of highly fulfilling career destinations.

The role of Information Adviser is wide ranging and instrumental in supporting students to explore and create opportunities and to develop as professional, adaptable and engaged graduates capable of positively shaping their own futures and that of the world around them.
- 1:1 careers information and advice interactions with students and graduates to support their progression into the job market, further study and self-employment
- creation and on-going development of an expanding portfolio of digital resources
- development and maintenance of the extensive Careers Service student website to ensure information is up-to-date and reflects current graduate recruitment trends
- building occupational and graduate recruitment knowledge
- establishing and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across the Careers Service and wider university
- leading on team and Service wide initiatives

You must have a degree (or equivalent). A professional qualification in information management or advice and guidance would be beneficial.

Enterprising and self-motivated with personal impact, team and communication skills, you will have good understanding of the graduate labour market along with experience of providing 1:1 information and advice. Experience of developing online content and delivering presentations/workshops would be desirable. You must be able to deal sensitively and with students, graduates and colleagues.

Key Accountabilities
Provide specialist careers advice and information through in-person and online 1:1 sessions with students and graduates of any degree discipline
Develop and maintain a range of digital information resources reflecting client needs and current graduate recruitment practices
Work with team members to develop and maintain the Service’s extensive student website. Research, write and edit content
Ensure information resources and services are accessible and meet the needs of a diverse student group, adhering to quality standards and digital accessibility legislation
Undertake independent research to respond to more complex client queries and the development of online content
Organise and facilitate on-campus and online careers information events, including the recruitment of external speakers and staffing stands
Devise, prepare and deliver a range of occasional workshops and interactive group sessions to be delivered centrally and in academic Schools
Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of a wide range of employers, occupations, recruitment procedures, labour market trends etc. to provide a high quality, informed service to our customers. This includes attending in-person and online employer and professional body information sessions
Lead and/or contribute to the planning and delivery of Careers Service projects and service delivery to develop the employability of specific client groups e.g. international students, students from under-represented groups, graduates. This includes determining the format, ensuring the delivery, organising promotion and ongoing process and development reviews.
Create and deliver training to Careers Service staff on a range of topics e.g. writing for the web, dealing with challenging clients, system functionality
Involvement in cross-Service and cross-University working groups and projects
Build collaborative relationships with staff from across the University to co-deliver on projects, respond to information requests and session support
Mentor and train a student CV Adviser, providing on-going support to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to deliver high quality 1:1 advice in a very busy role
Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade of the post

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Experience of providing 1:1 information and advice in a paid or voluntary setting
Ability to write engaging content that adheres to good practice for a range of resources and platforms. Awareness of digital accessibility legislation
Confident in using a range of technology platforms to deliver information and services
Excellent research skills
An up-to-date understanding of the graduate labour market
