Assistant Facilities Caretaker Apprentice

Assistant Groundsperson working as part of the Estate Team to maintain and improve the School grounds.
Godstowe Preparatory School is an independent day and boarding preparatory school for some 430 girls (with boys in the Pre-Prep). The School’s operations are spread over numerous separate buildings on its 12 acre parkland site on the northern outskirts of High Wycombe. The School comprises a number of buildings, some dating back to the early 1900s, as well as brand-new purpose built facilities, such as our 25m four lane indoor swimming pool.
Assistant Groundsperson working as part of the Estate Team to maintain and improve the School grounds, including:
- Assisting with the maintenance and improvement of sports pitches, parkland, woodland and gardens
- Upkeep of the lacrosse pitch, tennis and netball courts including line marking
- Mowing, strimming, weeding, weed-killing, hedging and pruning, including spraying of appropriate herbicides and pesticides
- Preparing beds and baskets for planting, edging and fertilising
- Laying turf, seeding, levelling and filling ground, drainage
- Maintaining the School pond in conjunction with the Science department, ensuring good habitat for wildlife
- Assisting with the servicing and maintenance of grounds machinery and equipment and keeping appropriate records
- Reporting in a timely manner grounds works or equipment maintenance requirements needing contractor assistance
- Assisting other members of the School maintenance team with sweeping and general clearing, keeping roads and paths clear and safe in severe weather conditions, car parking operations and other essential day-to-day tasks
- Any other general School duties which may be required from time to time to assist with the smooth running of the School
- To participate in any training and team meetings, as required and directed by the Facilities Manager and the Director of Finance and Operations
- Be self-motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic
- Be fit and capable of heavy work, used to using heavy machinery and able to lift, climb ladders, work at height and work in all weather conditions
- Have good interpersonal, customer care and communication skills and be able to communicate at all levels and age groups
- Have excellent time management skills
- Exhibit flexibility in adapting to changing needs and situations
- Have a proven record of good attendance and reliability
- Have the ability to work well in a team, demonstrating good social interaction and positive attitudes to support with overall team workload
- Be able to show initiative and to work unsupervised
