Cornwall Council is a large and ambitious Council, supported by an experienced and welcoming Legal Service that has a crucial role in providing specialist legal advice to all sectors of the Council, as well as some external organisations.
We are seeking a full-time, permanent specialist senior planning lawyer, qualified as a solicitor, barrister or FCILEx, to join our Regulatory and Litigation (R&L) Team.
You will be joining a busy team with a very varied stream of planning, environmental and highways law work. Acting principally for the Council but also for external clients. A broad knowledge and proven experience of planning law is essential. Experience of project working is desirable as is an understanding of highways law and the local government regulatory framework.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work under pressure and to strict timescales to ensure we deliver expert. bespoke advice to our clients, are a must. You must be proficient at drafting and a pragmatic problem solver.
The work of the team is varied and challenging and includes:
- general planning advice (including advice at Planning Committee)
- advising on planning policy including DPDs, Local Plan, CIL and S106 monitoring
- Complex S106 and Deeds of Modification
- Planning Enforcement advice
- Highways law - including parking, adoption, rights of way
- Drainage law
