The Analysis and Insight Directorate (AID) is currently taking forward a cross-cutting initiative seeking to put data and analysis at the heart of decision-making across the Defra Group. Our vision is** **for Defra to be universally data-driven in its decision-making, with more and better use of analysis and data integral to achieving better outcomes for our customers and the environment.

This work is part of a large scale and multi-faceted wider Transformation Programme. The Transformation Programme is setting the long-term vision and purpose for Defra group to support Defra’s continued delivery of its strategic outcomes and make the organisation fit for the future.

**Job description**:
This is an exciting opportunity to join Defra’s central and multidisciplinary analytical team - the Analysis and Insight Directorate (AID). AID has a key strategic role to play in ensuring that high quality analysis is driving Defra’s strategy, policy and ways of delivering.

The role will be within the ‘Use of Analysis and Data in Decision-Making (UADD)’ project team which is working to promote the changes Defra wants to its culture, behaviours, capability and skills so these are truly data-driven.

The team’s remit is wide-ranging and our activities can be expressed in the seven strands of our action plan:

- Engagement and communications: coordinating with other Transformation projects to ensure appropriate alignment; developing effective relationships with policy teams from across the organisation to support them through change and establishing regular engagement through developing effective and targeted communications for different audiences.
- Leadership: using senior leaders’ voices to champion change/best practice; supporting leaders to role model the learning, change and behaviours.
- Data visualisation: improving how data is presented; setting up support surgeries and coding and infographics libraries.
- Training for SCS and non-analysts: promoting the benefits of data literacy and encouraging participation in training offer; running data masterclasses for SCS and G6/7 staff; developing wider training package for all grades.
- Training for analysts: supporting development and delivery of training on various topics including data visualisation; working with analysts to improve their impact and influence.
- Ministerial and Private Offices: updating submission templates; evaluating how data and analysis are used in submissions and ministerial meetings.
- Recruitment and promotion: providing project input as HR scope whether/how to assess data literacy during appointment.

**Responsibilities**:
As Defra’s UADD Data literacy project lead you will be responsible for driving forward change to improve data
- and analysis
- based decision making. This includes:

- Leading on areas of the action plan (to be agreed based on experience and development goals), working closely with stakeholders to develop and drive work.
- Working with project and senior leaders to iterate the action plan, developing practical plans to deliver and monitor progress.
- Build effective partnerships across the Department to identify and exploit emerging opportunities and link up with related initiatives
- Management of stakeholder engagement with analytical working groups and staff user groups
- Analytical project lead for Data Literacy training (includes leading the analytical component of rolling out the virtual Data masterclass training course across Defra group senior leaders)
