Cardiff, United Kingdom British Red Cross Volunteer Full time

Why we want you: Community Engagement placement volunteer role is as part of the REPAIR project. REPAIR (Reunification Pathways for Integration) is a project delivered by a consortium of four national societies and partners; Austrian Red Cross (ARC), British Red Cross (BRC), French Red Cross (FRC), Slovenian Red Cross (SRC) led by the IFRC. REPAIR aims are to enable safe and legal family reunification (FR) to Europe by providing assistance to Beneficiaries of International Protection (BiP) and their family members from pre-arrival to post arrival stage and facilitate the integration of reunited families. Here in the UK, we have four key objectives to be delivered. REPAIR is one of the Family Reunion programmes under the International Family Tracing directorate within UK operations. The community engagement element of the project consists of working with receiving communities also called host communities. The refugee convention gives beneficiaries of international protection, called refugees in the UK the right to be reunited with their family members. However, the legal right and duties toward these beneficiaries are not always understood by the receiving communities. This project aims to raise awareness among communities. Enabling family reunification can be costly for organisations supporting refugees and for refugees themselves. We will be working with our fundraising colleagues to organise opportunities and activities including events aimed at raising funding toward the work of family reunion. This is a fantastic and rewarding volunteering opportunity as it gives not only the opportunity to support some good cause, but also offer a lot of learning opportunities. - Work with the project lead to support fundraising initiatives - Support with the delivery of Awareness-raising sessions within communities - Provide administrative support aimed at building online resources. - Organise and deliver trainings to engage receiving communities. - Carry out some desk-based research to help the fundraising teams identify different events opportunities in order to organise and deliver fundraising events. - Conduct research in identified local areas and identify certain receiving communities to partner with - Work with the project team to record any work undertaken.- Tasks: Be part of the REPAIR project team and participate in the project delivery team meetings and associated activity.
- Work with other project team members to help co-produce different awareness raising activities.
- Work with the team to help coordinate and run awareness raising sessions.
- Support the project officer with weekly project related duties.- Skills: You need to have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills although full training can be given for any technical requirements. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make.
- Knowledge of computer and IT
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Should have these skills or should be willing to develop them: desk-based research, knowledge of internet, group work and idea development.- Benefits: A full induction, with ongoing support and supervision throughout your placement
- Access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities, including British Red Cross intranet site, e-learning facility and one-to-one career sessions or career development workshops
- Valuable exposure to the work of the Red Cross in the UK and around the world
- A great opportunity to develop your existing skills and to gain new ones
- Reasonable travel and lunch expenses paid
- Being a volunteer for the British Red Cross means that you can proudly say you are part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, and one of our 13 million volunteers across the world.
