The Young Carers (Family) Team is a countywide assessment and support service for young carers and their families which is an integral part of the Children, Young People and Learning Directorate. The service aims to work with young carers, families and partner organisations to help ensure that every young carer is supported to achieve his or her potential. Services and activities are provided either directly by the Young Carers (Family) Team or through commissioned partnerships.

Grade: NJC Grade 10 £35,411 to £38,296

Directorate Group: Education & Skills

Location: Bridge House, Worthing, with countywide travel

Contract: Permanent

Working Pattern - Monday to Friday - 37 hours (evenings as required)
- Enhanced DBS check is a requirement of this post

In this role, you will manage and supervise the team, and will act as a lead professional responsible for enhancing service provision through identifying, triaging, and allocating casework to child and family workers within the team.

You will support the team to work in partnership with parents / carers, young people and other professionals to support and strengthen families in caring for their own children and to build the resilience of young carers to manage their complex family circumstances. You will ensure that the team takes a whole family approach to statutory assessments and provide direct work with all stakeholders to achieve positive change.

In addition, you will provide specialist advice and specialist resources to raise the profile and support for young carers across the workforce.

You will be expected to travel independently throughout the county to locations that will require you to have a full driving licence and your own transport. You may occasionally be required to work outside of normal office hours in order to meet the needs of the service. There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.

**Experience and Skills** Key Skills**:

- Excellent crisis management skills with the ability to deal with stressful, difficult situations and the leadership ability to motivate others to provide the highest possible level of service to families. Ability to work effectively with families in crisis and manage conflict, containing own and others’ anxieties and working within the boundaries of the role.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex people related information and data in order to prioritise needs and to negotiate and implement effective plans for support and service provision.
- Ability to effectively engage and empower young people, parents / carers and families to undertake direct work and use a range of interventions to achieve change_. _
- Ability to work in partnership with carers, colleagues and a variety of external agencies in order to deliver the most effective service, including the ability to act as a lead professional, facilitating and co-ordinating multi-agency meetings and plans.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others and communicate information that may be complex and contentious. Including the ability to undertake facilitation of issues in group settings.
- Ability to recognise the limits of own accountability and responsibility, and to seek appropriate support, advice and supervision.

**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- Experience of working with children, young people and their families in a relevant setting such as education, youth work or residential work.
- A detailed knowledge and understanding of young carers and the difficulties they face through their caring responsibilities.
- Evidence of good assessment skills, including the ability to ensure regular reviews and risk management with a variety of individuals, young people, carers and families.
- Evidence of effectively prioritising work and meeting deadlines.
- Evidence of working with those who access or need the service to identify issues and identify specific action by means of creative and pragmatic solutions.
- Demonstrable experience of effectively working with other agencies and members of the public.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Experience of effectively managing / leading staff - **_Desirable_**
