We are seeking a self-motivated, dynamic and forward-thinking professional to join our Clinical Governance Team to lead the Patient Safety agenda. You will be a registered clinician (Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, etc.) with both the experience and motivation to support the development of the patient safety culture within the Trust, ensuring the patient is at the centre of everything we do.
In line with our ongoing ambition to drive forward our patient safety agenda and the national NHS Patient Safety Strategy, we have an opportunity to join our team as a Patient Safety Specialist.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will work closely and collaboratively with those within the Trust supporting an aligned approach to the improvement of safety.
The purpose of the Patient Safety Specialist role is to lead our local implementation of the NHS patient safety strategy, by supporting the three strategic aims of:
Improving understanding of safety (insight). Equipping patients, staff and partners with the skills and opportunities to improve patient safety (involvement). Designing and supporting programmes that deliver effective and sustainable change (improvement).We need you to provide compassionate and collaborative senior leadership, visibility and expert support to our patient safety strategy.

In order to be a successful Patient Safety Specialist in our team you will be:
Registered with the NMC or HCPC via a core professional qualification Applications are welcomed from Nurses & Allied Health Professionals.
Experienced in working with patient safety initiatives.
Comfortable working in a leadership role.
Experienced in working within a mental health setting.

Qualifications
Essential
Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level Professional registration such as RMN,OT, psychologist Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
Desirable
Post-graduate patient safety qualification or previous experience Quality improvement qualification or previous experience
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
Experience of working in a patient safety-related role with an understanding of the principles that underpin approaches to improving patient safety in health systems. Experience and knowledge of the components of clinical governance, incident response, risk management and assurance function; current NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care. Experience of working in a strategic leadership role supporting Board Executives. Knowledge of the NHS patient safety strategy and how it can be implemented. Experience of implementing national guidelines and policies with the ability to interpret national advice, guidance and requirements and advise their organisation on how these should be implemented. Experience in project/change management in a healthcare environment and driving improvement for the safety of patients. Experience of working collaboratively with patients/service/ stakeholders to improve quality of service by co-design.
Desirable
Experience of developing & delivering training programmes.
Skills, capabilities & attributes
Essential
Ability to interpret complex information (including patient safety incident data, administrative data, mortality data) that may conflict and where expert opinion may differ. Ability to develop and communicate a vision, and convert that into plans, objectives and deliverables working to tight and often changing deadlines. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and deal confidently with staff at all levels of an organisation. High quality presentation skills and ability to provide and effectively communicate highly complex, sensitive and contentious information to staff, patients and relatives / carers, particularly where a potentially antagonistic or highly emotive atmosphere may present significant barriers to acceptance. Ability to travel across sites.
