**About us**
The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) is a partnership between Bridgend Council, Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council to deliver the Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Licensing functions. The services provided include food safety, animal health and welfare, health and safety, fair trading, pollution control, and weights and measures. It also has licensing responsibility for a range of matters including alcohol, gambling and taxis, as well as hosting the Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit.

SRS is committed to enforcing the laws we regulate, instigating legal proceedings against those businesses or individuals where necessary. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal Support Officer to oversee the legal processing function across our shared service. This role involves attending court and providing effective liaison between the Legal Services of the three Councils, investigating officers, and witnesses.

The vacancy has arisen on a temporary (up to 12 months basis), to cover the secondment of the post holder into another role.
**About the role**
The key aspect of this role is to manage the legal processing function across the shared service, attending court and providing effective liaison between the Legal services of the three Councils, investigating officers and witnesses. This role will also manage and oversee issues relating to RIPA, POCA and the use of the NAFN facility. Duties will include:

- Preparation and continuing review of reports and evidence files for submission to the Legal Services of the three Councils.
- Interrogation of, and submissions to, any central registers of conviction and notification as required by legislation.
- Liaison with Legal Services on case proceedings including attendance at Court.
- Provide legal and administrative advice and direction to case officers to ensure high standard of evidence is produced to support any formal enforcement action deemed necessary
- To manage all aspects of witness care including witness availability, notifications of case progression and outcome, supervising witness attendance in Court for trial, and to have full regard to the requirements for witness care contained in the relevant Code of Practice for Victims of Crime in England and Wales.
- To compile authorisations in accordance with the Team Managers instructions and in readiness for approval and signing by the Head of Shared Regulatory Services, undertake an annual review of regulations and notify Team Managers’ of relevant changes and maintain a register of officer authorisations.

You will need:

- Degree in law or equivalent.
- Recognised training in RIPA, CPIA, etc.
- Experience of court systems; procedures and trial management
- Experience of working with solicitors; barristers and other professionals in a contentious environment
- Experience of training others on legal matters
- Demonstrate proven written and oral communication skills, appropriate to the audience.
- Demonstrate an ability to work to strict statutory time limits
- Demonstrates an ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to evaluate and work with written information and numerical data
